Bottle at Chris o New Year tasting 08/09. Thanks to Phil l Aged aroma. Yes, it’s an ok strong Belgian ale but it does have a fair amount of age to it, which is quite dominant.

In short: A very much overly sweet Abt. Ok in small servings. A full bottle grossed me out
How: Bottle 750ml. Consumed relatively fresh some 6 months after purchase.
The look: Cloudy ruby body topped by a very small beige head
In long: Nose of a sweet alcoholised fruity dessert. Flavour elements include sweetened dates, sweetened figs, cookie malts, sweetened blackberries, some fudge, brown sugar, tobacco. No hops presence. Annoying crunchy brown sugar presence. Overall sensation of fig cookies. This is a lame effort by the usually good De Proef, De Proet Lozen Boer is De Proef Lazy Beer.

Head is initially large, frothy, light brown, fully lasting. Body is medium to dark brown. Aroma is lightly malty (caramel), moderately yeasty (mold, dough), with a note of metal shavings. Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, moderately to heavily bitter, very unclean. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic, metallic. Terrible, terrible, terrible. Probably the worst "abbot" style I’ve ever had.

750 mL bottle. Hazy brown with creamy light tan head. Floral rose, fruit, and yeast aroma. Sweet fruity flavor quickly transitioning a soapy taste - blucky - and finishing with a horrible taste that I can’t quite describe, maybe cow manure given the commercial description.

Bottle @ home. Hazy brown appearance with a light brown head. Strong candy sugar, somewhat boozy, brown sugar, belgian ale nose. Very candy sugary, dark belgian, boozy flavor. Strong, sugary, boozy finish. I really can’t stand this one.
