3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Tim Webb (129) - Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, ENGLAND - MAY 11, 2012
At the brewpub, on draught. A difficult beer to rate as it is, uniquely for northern Germany, an uncarbonated beer sold fresh from wooden casks rolled down from the brewhouse on the same principle as traditional Alt or Kolsch. Has the earthy edge of all beers dispensed thus. On the other hand it is a pretty dull, soft, low-hopped zwickelbier and two or three are enough.

Gravity cask at the brewpub. Hazy, red-brown, almost orange colour with a small white head. Love this nice, warming appearance! From the aroma I get notes of caramel, malts and bittersweet fruits. Lightly sweet taste with bitter notes from citrus and orange. Medium body, oliy texture and soft carbonation. I was pleasently surprised by this beer!
