COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An oak-aged double red. Malt-forward with luscious caramel and hints of roast, but the ample hops wonít let you forget they are there. Finishes dry and clean, leaving the impression that it is lighter than it really is.

Bottle. Cherry, caramel malt, and alcohol aroma. Dark amber with large light tan head. Sweet caramel malt and moderately bitter herbal/citrus and alcohol flavor. Very nice.

Bottle: Pours dark red-brown with a creamy tan head. Roasty, smoky caramel aroma. Woody, toast, caramel flavor. Nice, easy, wooden tones with a touch of alcohol...subtle.... Very mellow, overall. Nice.

I thought this was quite good. Nice imperial red notes -- spicy/hoppy, but not over the top at all. Woody/smokiness from the barrel aging was just a hint, and contributed nicely to the flavor. Well done. Drinkable.

12 oz. bottle. Pour is deep amber with a khaki head that fades pretty quick. Smell is very malty and sweet with notes of fruit, caramel and a touch of oak. Faint hops on the nose. Taste is caramel, spice, a touch of earthy hops, faint oak and sweetness. Nothing overpowering flavor-wise in this beer which makes it very drinkable for 8%. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Translucent red brown with lots of fine bubbles and a medium tan head. Strong caramel maltiness, resinous hop with a little bit of a fruity note. The taste is mostly sweet with only a light bitter finish. The body is medium with a very bubbly feel. The oak was hard to detect.

12 oz. bottle. Musty, smoky aroma features grape, cookie, plum, wild rice, and cinnamon scents (quite the combination). Pours a clear, interesting, reddish color with a small amount of taupe head. Produces good lacing. Sweet, smoky, barley-wine-esque taste features toffee, caramel, butter, cookie, and blonde brownie flavors. Dry finish. Medium body. Smooth and oily in the palate. Reasonably enjoyable but certainly not a "Wow!" beer.

Caramel sweetness throughout. Some oakiness. Light fruitiness. Nice balance of bitterness. Very different and more sweet than anything else.

I had last years edition of this beer and my memory is that it was absolutely terrible, but this years edition toned down the oak a bit and now it serves as a nice caramelly winter warmer. Almost some scotch ale notes happening here.

Iíve never heard of this brewery and their labels are really something but I really enjoyed this beer. Ruby colour, short white head. Aroma is strong of oak and malt. Heavily flavoured of oak, with lots of caramel... And thatís basically it but itís nicely pulled off.

Bottle. Caramel notes in the nose. Beautiful dark red. Sweet flavor with hints of honey. Oak in the finish which really makes this beer. Initially doesnít taste like its 8.5%abv. More strength evident as it warms. Caramel.
