COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A Belgian golden ale. On the nose it is lightly hoppy and yeastily spicy, with faint caramelly malt notes and a touch of citrusy and estery fruit. The head tastes extremely bitter, as is often the case with this style. Surprisingly fruity, but with a strong hoppy bitterness. There is a warming, malty, vanilla quality to it, which develops into an alcohol kick towards the end. Secondary fermentation in the bottle.

UPDATED: MAY 17, 2007 Bottled. Time for a re-rate I thought. And it didnít turn out to good for Lucifer. Donít know whether my tastebud changed or the beer did, but really donít like it anymore. Couldnít finish the whole bottle. Hoppe herbal and light grainy aroma. Pale yellow color, light hazy, white head, good lace. Bitter, some veggies, medicinal bitterness. Alcoholic and metallic. Hard drink, harder to finish.

Awful aroma, quite possibly the worst I have ever encountered. I thought it had skunked, although the flavor was not that bad. hoppy finish with a nice citrus zing up front. Sweet. Yet the odor ruined it for me, so much that i could not even finish the beer.

I had this on-tap at the Ginger Man in Austin, and was not very impressed. I remember having this a decade ago in Quebec and being quite a bit more impressed with it...but thereíve been a lot of very good beers thatíve come into my life since then. It poured a hazy straw color with about a cm of white head in a tulip glass. Aroma was pretty hay-like and papery, and a bit oxidized. Flavor was more wet-newspaper with quite a bit of maltiness. There was none of the effervescence of say an Atomium, and none of the light spiciness of a Duvel. It was just sort of bland and disappointing. Mouthfeel was a bit flat and unremarkable. If this is a representative sample of this beer, I would not recommend it. I had this beer on-tap at Ginger Man in Austin.

UPDATED: AUG 6, 2009 Pours clear gold with heavy yeast flakes and small white head.Aroma is slight spice and heavy yeast. Flavor is about the same really canít taste anything but the yeast and itís very bitter.Drank a glass of this and poured the rest out. A waist of $7 will never buy or drink this crap again. Not every beer from Belgium is good and this proves it.!

Fizzy looking & yellow tinted clear. Bright white head, tending to be quite lacey. Slightly yeasty aroma over a swillish background with a pinch of lemon and a smidgen of alcohol. Bland and lagery weak body..very swillish but hot with a slight bitterness in the end. Quite like chewing on a stepped on piece of dry grass. A peppery alcohol bit to it too...Iíll put $20 on it being bottom fermented, no matter what the damn label says..satan has been known to lie.

Light, flakey, not unlike Pabst Blue Ribbon. Easily the most disappointing Belgian Strong Ale I have ever tasted. Don't waste your time or your money on this drainpour.

Hoofdsmaak is zuur en wat bitter. Nasmaak is overheersend bitter. Weinig geur. Ruikt naar een ígewooní biertje. Duvel van Moortgat kan ik zeer waarderen, helaas dit biertje stuk minder.

Are some batches different? My sample is a pale yellow with a white rocky head. The nose is a muted spiciness of clove and cinnamon. The ABV is noted but it has to be experienced through a burst of effervescence that takes a while to subside. As such it doesn't have that Duvel sippiness(???) Hang on, this has ascorbic acid (E300) and Propan-1,2-diol alginate (E405) whatever the hell that is! Uh uh, do NOT do that!!! Low marks for my pissed-off factor when I don't know what I am drinking. Go to hell Lucifer. Duvel unto others as you would have duvel unto thee.

Yellow with a nice head. Aroma from flowers, elder and citrus. Flavor brings way too much alcohol, peppery finish. I did not like this...

This is what a Budweiser/Miller/Coors would taste like if it had 8% alcohol.
