0.75 bottle. Little hazy, pale, gold color and a big, thin, white head. Aroma of pale malts, hops, and spices - a typically Belgian combination with a noticeable yeasty addition. Taste is a bit sourer than expected, not as sweet and spicy as is customary for a Belgian ale. Medium body, slick texture, and average carbonation. Finish is even sourer than the taste, not to a fault but still unexpected. Overall the beer is really mediocre, especially considering the style and brewery’s repute.

Duft av plomme, gress, jær og sitron. Dunkel lys gulbrun farge. Dekkende hvitt skum, noe heng langs kant. Frisk smak av frukter og noe syrlig gress. Nydelig og lett drukket.

Yellow colored with white persistent foam. Coriander, orange and apple on the aroma. Taste is smooth and balanced, with friuty highlights. Bitter aftertaste.

Served on tap in a snifter Appearance – The beer is served a light golden color with a one finger head of pure white foam. The head has a decent level of retention, slowly fading to leave a decent level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the beer is largely as would be expected for a BPA with a decent showing of some fruity smells of orange, peach, and banana along with some spice aromas of pepper and clove. A bit of bubblegum and some candied sugar are there as well along with some hoppy smells of a grassy and lightly floral nature. Taste – The taste begins with a somewhat fruity flavor with the presence of both peach and orange present. Along with the fruity flavors are some light cracker flavors as well as spice of pepper and clove. As the flavor advances, some of the fruity flavors decrease being replaced by bubblegum as well as a bit of yeasty banana. Toward the end some hop flavors also join the flavor profile with them being composed mainly of an earthy and citrus nature. The mix of flavors that is then left at the end of the taste, ends up leaving one with a somewhat clean and crisp BPA flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thin side with a carbonation level that is on the average side. The thin body is nice for the crisp nature of the beer and with the average carbonation, which still supported the flavors nicely, creates a nice easy drinker. Overall – A fairly nice and easy drinking BPA. A good one to try.

Didn’t realize there was a new entry for the new version of this. Here’s my rating for the other, the samples I’ve had doesn’t seem like it’s changed much, thankfully!

Classic Belgian golden. Pleasantly in the fruit esther malt department and slightly spicey towards the back and finish. Classic!

330ml bottle bought at Belgian Beer International in Tsuen Wan.

Looks: Cloudy hazy very pale golden pear juice colour with traces of dirt-like yeast sediments; Explosive two and half finger head with long-lasting crumpety white foam; Excellent sticky lacing and fizzy carbonation.

Aroma: Very fragrant and sweet malt, with strong vanilla, banana, light pineapple, sugar, phenolic, light caramel and toffee, sweet bread, strong Bel yeast and light herbs.

Taste: Mid to light sweet full malt, with initial light metallic and very light sour notes, plus light mashed banana, ester, light caramel, molasses, light bread, strong Bel yeast, light wood, strong herbs, light lemon, bitter hops and very light grass.

Body: Medium body, thick and slick palate.

Mouth Feel: strong Belgian Blonde, thick body, malty but not Duvel-ish Pils-like; light mash banana aside, the ester is blurry. Strong phenolic, light bready and yeasty. With some woody earthy herbs. Pretty decent…

Booze: the 8% abv is extremely well hidden. Good!

Hoppiness: Herbal in aroma; Light wood, light spice, lemon and light grass in taste. Bitterness is fairly light but notable for a light bitter finish.

After Taste: Slightly dry. Fairly easy to mouth.

Comments: A Duvel clone maybe? Well it succeeded partially with very beautiful head and lacing, okay maltiness, fragrant fruity aroma, low sweetness, and good hidden booze. Downsides being murky pale colour, vague ester / phenolic taste, and lame hoppiness given Spalt and Saaz are in the mix. This is decent, but in no way it can catch Duvel, the benchmark of ‘evil’ strong Belgian blonde. Ha!
