UPDATED: JUL 3, 2013 75cl bottle. Aged for 2 years. Shared with Mathieu87. Appearance: clouded blonde beer, unstable white head. Nose: grains, caramel, oxidated, Saccharomyces cerevisiae (yeast used by backers), over aged hops. Taste: Saccharomyces cerevisiae, caramel, oxidated, yeast, too much carbonation in the mouth. Shouldn’t have been cellared, i’ll try a fresh one asap.

Clear Golden beer with a very firm white head. High carbonation. Aroma of fruit and yeast. Taste of caramel and malts, combined with a dry finish. {Pretty good beer, a bit to bland to make a great beer for me.

The aroma is fruity, boozy. The flavor is the same, with off, chemical, paper like flavors. The appearance is hazy yellow amber. Boozy finish. Not great, not awful. And expensive.

330 ml bottle Blond with white foam. Simple nose typical of belgian strong ales. Medium body, maybe a bit too carbonated, warm estery and yellow fruits. A bit too alchoolic, simple.

Pours a hazy/cloudy gold with a thick rocky eggshell head that settles slowly and leaves some foamy, webby lace. Nose involves dusty, citric yeast, earthy (almost farmy) notes, and clean malt. Fairly sweet, quite a bit tart, with some bitterness. Medium bodied, juicy, grainy, with a long bitter and yeasty tart finish. Not bad, quenching for its strength.

Shared a 33cl bottle from Cora (Luxembourg). Pours a bit hazy golden colour with a thin white head. Aroma is malty and yeasty. Average carbonation and medium to light body. Taste is medium bitter and light sweet. Overall, a bit unbalanced but drinkable.

Goudkleurig, helder, veel koolzuur, dikke laag wit schuim. Aroma van banaan en ananas, tamelijk zware alcoholdamp. Smaakt beetje zuur, beetje bitter, geen zoet. Prima bier.

Strong Belgian blond beer. Bit dryer than usual and a bit high on CO2. Decent.

330ml bottle bought at Belgian Beer International in Tsuen Wan.

Looks: Cloudy hazy very pale golden pear juice colour with traces of dirt-like yeast sediments; Explosive two and half finger head with long-lasting crumpety white foam; Excellent sticky lacing and fizzy carbonation.

Aroma: Very fragrant and sweet malt, with strong vanilla, banana, light pineapple, sugar, phenolic, light caramel and toffee, sweet bread, strong Bel yeast and light herbs.

Taste: Mid to light sweet full malt, with initial light metallic and very light sour notes, plus light mashed banana, ester, light caramel, molasses, light bread, strong Bel yeast, light wood, strong herbs, light lemon, bitter hops and very light grass.

Body: Medium body, thick and slick palate.

Mouth Feel: strong Belgian Blonde, thick body, malty but not Duvel-ish Pils-like; light mash banana aside, the ester is blurry. Strong phenolic, light bready and yeasty. With some woody earthy herbs. Pretty decent…

Booze: the 8% abv is extremely well hidden. Good!

Hoppiness: Herbal in aroma; Light wood, light spice, lemon and light grass in taste. Bitterness is fairly light but notable for a light bitter finish.

After Taste: Slightly dry. Fairly easy to mouth.

Comments: A Duvel clone maybe? Well it succeeded partially with very beautiful head and lacing, okay maltiness, fragrant fruity aroma, low sweetness, and good hidden booze. Downsides being murky pale colour, vague ester / phenolic taste, and lame hoppiness given Spalt and Saaz are in the mix. This is decent, but in no way it can catch Duvel, the benchmark of ‘evil’ strong Belgian blonde. Ha!
