3.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 jd543 (121) - SCOTLAND - APR 14, 2013
Black with a nice thick, light brown head. Aroma is bread and yeast - a little overpowering and I think takes away from some really good flavours that are going on. Coffee malt and chocolate flavour and a little sour. Very lively carbonation.

Bottle from BeerHive, Edinburgh [180213]
Black, rich tan head, some lacing
Aroma of rich dark smooth malts with a dab of yeast
Taste of roasted malts, fruity dark malts, dab of yeast, touch of dark toffee, some chocolate, good flavour
Palate - Medium carb and body, creamy rich malts, Finish as main flavour, smooth rich dark chocolatey malts, bit of a dry roast finish, touch of a salty edge though that loses it some marks
Overall - Lot of flavour here - it’s a good porter

[330ml bottle, Cornelius Beer & Wine, Edinburgh] Black with a half-inch beige head. Fantastic roasty, dark aroma of deep molasses, charred wood and strong, bitter chocolate. Just a fabulous nose. Surprisingly large amount of liquorice on the taste, which goes after a while to be replaced by ashy bitterness, burnt coffee grounds. The mouthfeel is nice, if there wasn’t that tannic, ashy end it would be perfect. I like it, up until the long, smoky aftertaste. Would go very well with strong cheese, however [04022013]

Bottle. Black with tan head that fades to a ring. Slightly ashy roasty aroma, also a little metallic, touch of solvent. Taste is quite robust, roasty and ashy. Quite fizzy with a dry finish. Nice.
