Lucky Bucketís Original American IPA begins with a nice malt bill that lets the brew stand up to the mountain of hops added later. After the boil, the hot wort (the beer before itís really beer) is fired through a hop back, a unique four-barrel stainless steel tank filled with a gratuitous amount of raw flower Amarillo, Centennial, and Cascade hops, extracting the aromatic oils and flavor of the hops. Followed with additional dry hopping in the fermenter, the end result is a big, well-balanced West Coast-style IPA with terrific hop flavor and aroma.

Had this after a pint of Daleís Pale and I have to say that this IPA stood way above the Daleís beer in flavor and aroma ( I realize that I am comparing an APA with an IPA, so sue me), but I liked the freshness and flavor of Lucky Bucket way better...thanks.

12 oz bottle purchased at the brewery, poured into a pint glass at home. Orange and clear appearance with a fluffy, lasting white head. Fresh hoppy aroma of pine, grass, citrus/tropical fruits, floral notes and light herbs. Similar flavor, medium hop bitterness, zesty and lightly spicy with light toasty malts. Medium body, crisp and dry with a lingering finish. Pretty solid IPA.

Some time back we had a number of visitors staying with us. For fun, they took turns going out and picking up varieties of beer. I kept notes about what we thought about each, but can not find them anywhere. I did find a bag of empties from that time period, so thought I would at least record those w/o commet and ratings from memory. This is one of those. (When I do find the notes it will be interesting to see how close I came)

12 ounce bottle from Libation Station. Pours a clear copper color with a medium sized fizzy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of resin, citrus, pine hops with some tart fruits and a moderate non-descript maltiness. The taste is citrus hops, stone fruits and caramel malts. Medium bodied.

Bottle at home. Pours crystal clear copper with a medium-large, frothy off-white to light beige head, medium retention with light lacing. Aroma is heavy pine, citrus, and resin hops, fresh squeezed orange juice, cracker and honey malt, peach and apricot esters. Flavor is earthy, dirty malt, lightly stale hops, moderate bitterness, supporting fruity esters, and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

UPDATED: NOV 23, 2014 One of my favorite Nebraskan IPAís. Itís dank, bitter, aromatic, and has an assertive grapefruit flavor. Basically itís a West Coast IPA from a Mid-American brewer. Overall, Iíd say this is a very classy effort. While Lucky Bucket isnít my favorite Nebraska brewer, itís proof that my home state can make a good hoppy ale.

Pours clear yellow gold with lasting white foam. Great aroma of earthy pine and bright citrus a little soapy. Solid flavor, very well put together. Familiar one orange citrus pine with solid grains to back it. Nice fairly clean finish not quite dry with lingering earthy pine kick.

Bottle with Greg, courtesy of the Big Ragu. Pour is clear orange with a big white head and great lacing. Grapefruity, orange peel, bready, lightly grassy, doughy, and caramelly aroma. Taste is much the same - fruity, grapefruity, sweet caramel, bread, a touch of weed, and earthiness with a medium bitter finish. Medium body with high carbonation. Decent IPA but the malt backbone is much too pronounced for my liking.

Draft to pint glass Tons of aroma here, caramel. grapefruit, and lots of spruce. Clear amber with a thin white head. Bitter, but well balanced with a malty and caramel sweetness.
