3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the brewpub - Pours medium / dark brown with a tan head. The aroma has lots of smooth chocolate, roast, hazelnuts and mild coffee - comes across as a brown ale meeting a stout. It has a medium smooth body with delicate soft carbonation. Flavors begin with smooth chocolate (mild dark), nuttiness, hints of vanilla and very mellow coffee. The finish has light earthy hops joining the mix. Really nice foreign stout. I seem to be a sucker for the style a lot.

A clear dark brown stout with a thin dark brown head. In aroma, good chocolate malt with coffee grinds, a bit musty. In mouth, a nice bitter chocolate with coffee notes, herbal, raspy, quite nice. On tap at brewpub at Hawthorne, Oct. 7 2012.

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Tap at Hawthorne location - black pour with a sticky tan lace - a very slight mouthfeel - medium body - I have never tasted so much diacetyl in a stout before - very buttery - this overcomes the more pleasant notes of bittersweet chocolate and roast - lightly bitter finish, with lingering butter - meh.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at the brewpub. Pours coal black with a light brown head. Has a malted chocolate aroma. This is a dry, but also a milky stout. It’s smooth with great thickness on a solid palate. The thick lacing walls the glass. I detect a really nice licorice flavor as well. This beer lies in the midpoint between a dry and a sweet stout.
