3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Maria (9556) - Thisted, DENMARK - OCT 19, 2012
It’s black with a brown, creamy head. The aroma has notes of licorice, butterscotch, caramel and hops. The flavor is moderately sweet with hoppy notes of licorice, butterscotch, dry straw, and the finish is rather dry with a roasted bitterness. A little too much butter-feel, but certainly a very nice beer.

Tap. Pours black with a average sized beige heat, leaving a fair lacing. Nose of bread and a bit of caramel and roast. Sweet breaddy flavor with a fair roastiness. Medium bodied, oily texture and soft carbonation. Ends up with a little bitterness.

One of the first beers that changed my notion of what beer can be. Chocolately, smooth, with a perfect pour and deep brown coloration. Tried this beer at the brewery in Quedlinbourg, GE in 2007 with Jay, Hannah, and Jennifer.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Kartoffeln (40) - Kansas, USA - APR 22, 2011
Best Schwarzbier ever...at a tiny royal court microbrewery at the base of a castle in Quedlingburg, Harz Mountains, Germany. A truly unique brewery and brew. None of the typical off flavor problem’s I have with a lot of Schwarzbiers, just creamy, dry, and chocolaty.

Aroma chock full o’ liquorice and ginger with some roasted malt and toasted almonds. Almost opaque inky black with a light brown , thin cover. Flavour begins a little thin and sourish with dark malts but then becomes a nice bready and smoky drink. Notes of ginger and coffee. Yum. Medium to light body, medium carbonation, slightly sweet finish, but smoky.
