COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Lundgren's Lager is a golden-hued beer with full body and a beautiful aromatic taste of hops. A more bitter beer is probably not commercially brewed in Sweden but the refreshing character with touch of honey and citrus makes the beer extremely smooth, in spite a bitterness of 40 BU.

Bottled. Clear, golden beer with an off-white head. Fruity and piny hops and malt in the aroma. The flavor is hoppy, with pinecones and some malty sweetness. Thin to medium body and a nice bitterness in the finish. (061019)

Bottle hand carried by my wonderful wife from Stockholm to Madison. Wonderful aroma of pine or woodsmoke. Golden with a thin, fizzy head. Woody aroma like maple or oak. Beechwood? Sharp on the tongue...more wood. Unique for a common style. Rather full bodied for style. No flaws, and very interesting

UPDATED: AUG 20, 2007 Bottle - Bruxellensis Festival. Deep copper colour with no head. Malts are ok, it’s fine. Some nice hop on end. Re-rate from bottle at GBBF, exactly the same score. Spooky

Bottle, best before October 2006 from the generous Engelsmann, consumed on 9/13/06.
Bright, sparklingly clear yellow-straw, with a plethora of bubbles about the liquid. Even with a forceful pour, I can’t seem to coax all that much head out of it. What is there, is white and rather quickly dissipating, leaving minimal lace behind.
Fantastically dry aroma up front, crackling with bitter, grassy hops and starkly dry straw/hay notes. As it carries through to the crisp, well-lagered, cleanly yeasted finish, it picks up a spoonful of light honey and touches of vanilla cream. No flaws evident in the nose, with the hops shining brilliantly and acerbically. Medium to medium-high strength of aroma, well-extracted, rich malts, though well-attenuated of course. Redolent of wet, ripe barley and fresh baked baguette.
Unfortunately, though I didnt pick it out in the nose, there is a fairly apparent streak of diacetyl in the flavor. It hangs on the end and would be easily tolerable in an ale, but for a lager that is all about crispness and cleanliness, it is rather dulling. Still, up front there are the greenest of leafy/grassy hops, pleasantly, though certainly not overbearingly bitter, followed by sweet, creamy-honey sugars, just enough to remove any thoughts of thinning or wateriness from the body. Lightly toasted grains and hints of sourdough creep on the edges as well. Carbonation is somewhat low and it loosens steadily as the beer breathes. Fortunately, I didnt waste much time in polishing off this simple but delightful quaffer. Light body, no alcohol noted, too bad about the diacetyl.

Bottled - Bruxellensis - Courtesy of Dan Shelton - A copper coloured lager with some buttery notes in the aroma mixed with grass. The taste is malty and has a good body. The alcohol shows itself to the extent that this has maerzen qualities. Tasty.

Pours a very pale golden with a white head. Lacing is good, but retention very poor. Very citrussy aroma with some light malts. There is a very solid bitterness, then some good floral hops and a combination of sweet malts. It also has a clean delecate finish. A great lager.
