JoeinUccle (601), Brussels, Belgium May 11, 2008 75 cL bottle shared at Poechenellekelder. Pours a hazy orange with fluffy white head. Looks nice. Sweetish, hoppy, orange-citrus nose. Flavor is fairly sweet going into a moderate bitterness that sticks and lasts into aftertaste. A bit dry. Pretty good balance, although alcohol shows through a touch. Nice overall flavor but it’s still a bit restrained and thus maybe disappointing for a "hoppy" beer. Reminds me a Chouffe Houblon light, lacking a bit of punch. Looking forward to trying more of it though.
Dickinsonbeer (2458), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Jun 28, 2008 Bottle at Mondial 08. Pours a mostly clear golden with a nice fropthy white head, and left wierd spiderweb delicate lace on the glass. Aroma is phenolic to the point where it is almost cleanser-like, with some harsh notes, very green overall with some yeasty character. Flavor is fairly bitter, herbal hops and floral notes- crackery pils (slightly old) malts, ligth dough, and some herbal flowery spices- hints of hibiscus flower. Finish is dry and clean with some lingering bitterness. i had this 2x- the first was real nice, the second time I wasnt really liking it that much. Ober (190), Best, Netherlands Jun 26, 2008 Thanx to William Roelens for the bottle A hazy golden colored beer, with a huge white foamy head. It disappears slowly. The aoma is hoppy with some spices and flower notes. The taste is hoppy as well, with some nice bitterness, there are fruits like citrus and in the back some aniseed. A little bitter aftertaste. A very good beer. Rastacouere (5196), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Jun 5, 2008 Objectively speaking:
An opportunist attempt to reproduce a style that is growingly popular these days, but inferior to its inspirations.
I like:
The growing popularity of hoppy Belgians. Fair earthy/orange hop aroma. Diplomatic spiciness. Slightly honeyed, yet dry for enjoyable drinkability.
I dislike:
The conservatism behind the hop selection and usage. Grainy nature behind those malts. Hops are drowned in the intense yeastiness which is not devoid of character, but settles down over the other ingredients like a loving mother rather than a boastful and energetic youngster.
jerc (3039), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 4, 2008 2008-05-31. Golden yellow witha small white ehad. (3+) Dry, malty start, light grass, lighter florals and a touch of alcohol in the aroma (6+). Similar flavour, light alcohol precedes pale malt, light dry notes (6+). Pleasant and enjoyable but pretty average Belgian style brew. Average palate. I saw this at Delerium in Brussels and wanted to sample it based on the label art, glad to see it again - if anyone has an e-copy of the label art I’d love a copy. Bottle, Mondial, Montreal, 4T
