COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark brown bordeaux-coloured beer with a firm broken-white head. The aroma is pleasant, with some pear and roasted nuts. The palate is nutty, with some chocolate impressions followed by exotic fruit. This beer with strong character has a beautiful finish with some bitter hop and caramel.

Bottle. An unclear, reddish brown beer topped by a finger-thick, light beige head. Prunes, dark sugars, some roasted malts and caramel in the aroma. Yeast too. The flavor has an almost unpleasant hoppy bitterness, else it’s more or less the same as the aroma. Full body, sort of too carbonated. Bitter, lightly roasted finish. Overall, too yeasty, and there’s also some vegetables. Not DMS, but green asparagus or broccoli. 130516

Bottle. Opaque black color with a light brown head. Licorice, ripe fruits and caramel in aroma. Taste is malty and quite sweet with a long somewhat bitter aftertaste. Flavors of caramel, ripe fruits, licorice, coffee and some hops. Nice one with some good characteristics but not such a specialty.

Scotch-style ale since 2009 with sticky, stable, moussy head and very dark bronze colour with chestnut hue, hazy. Aroma of roasted coffee beans, tobacco, dried leaves, walnuts, dates, raisins, chocolate and some DMS (red cabbage). Fruity onset (pear, peach) quickly overwhelmed by a sharpish coffee-like roasted bitterness, then shifting to a thick chocolatey, sweetish maltiness, creamy and leading to a mild hoppy and warming alcoholic finish. Very nice.

Aroma of malt, caramel, nuts, dark fruit, spices. Flavour is sweet with a dry finish. Good beer, but the Wolf 7 is more to my liking.

UPDATED: OCT 18, 2014 Bottled, i guess from biernavigatie.nl. Very dark brown colored, small but lasting beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, licorice, raisins, chocolate even, hint of coffee, reminiscent of Rochefort. Flavor starts with roasted malts, some licorice, then some caramel, sweet, but more bitter towards the end. Licorice and bitterness in a long lasting finish. A very nice example of the style. I’d like to see an "imperial" version of this once, which would really bring it close to the Rochefort 10 level.
