COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark brown bordeaux-coloured beer with a firm broken-white head. The aroma is pleasant, with some pear and roasted nuts. The palate is nutty, with some chocolate impressions followed by exotic fruit. This beer with strong character has a beautiful finish with some bitter hop and caramel.

CONCLUSION : une bière assurément rude à apprécier. On dira plutôt pour connaisseur, parce que ce n’est pas une bière « facile », mais c’est une belle bière.

33 cl. bottle sampled @ Gollem in Antwerp. Thx! BBF 07/03/2015. Pours a wine / pomegranate hued blackish brown with a big tanned / beige head. Nose is lots of sweet dark fruit, raisins, prunes,… light brown sugar, sweet spices & caramel, really lovely. Taste is faint molasses, lots of the same sweet dark fruits, cane & brown sugar, sweet spices, warming, caramel malts,… Very lovely. Carb. is a touch nicer than usual. Great example of the style & way better than expected, pleasant surprise & easily the best of the 3 Wolf beers.

Bottled from local Mitra. Clear dark brown color, thick creamy brown head. Aroma of spicy belgian yeast, red fruit like grapes and cherry, raisin, grapes. Some biscuit and cookie as well. Taste is quite sweet, but also dry. Again I get a lot of cookie maltiness and raisins, like in the best of the Abt beers. I suspect loads of special B malt. Finishes slightly bitter even. Soft alcohol burn, but very well hidden. This is seriously a great brew in tradition of the best of dark belgian strong ales. Top notch.

Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. This beer explodes out of the bottle with a huge creamy head of foam. Dark Mahogany coloured with very rich red fruit and burnt currant flavours, chocolate and coffee notes with a bitter-sweet oak and roasted finish. Excellent!

Bottled at Pressklubben, Stockholm. Clear dark mahogany colour, rich head. Spicy nose with black currant and restrained banana. Mid dry with medium body and nicely rounded mouthfeel. Slight marzipan and white pepper together with chocolate, covered in floral hops and black currant. Spicy, mid bitter finish. Very elegant.

Countbeer (4429) - Best of E-Town mit ein Brauhaus, NETHERLANDS - OCT 3, 2012
Bottle: Big vast and slow disappearing ashy light brown creamy head on top of a deep dark brown colored beer, with deep dark hazy ruby tints. Smell malts, raisin, herbs, cream, nuts, smoothly spiced, autumnal herbs and spices, caramel, light vinous and sparkling and some toffee notes. Like the 7 this number 8 has also a malty character, but now with more of a darker touch like lightly roasted or more toasted barley malts and some nuty malts. Taste thus plenty of malts, a smooth tint of liquorice, some herbal grassy hops, some toasted malts and barley malts, toffee, caramel, some light sweeter hops and toasted grains. Some darker fruits like raisin and prunes and some darker sweets. All by all very nice. Aftertaste of autumnal herbs, light spicy and some herbal hop flavours. Low to lightly medium carbo, soft light spicy mouthfeel, good medium to lightly fuller body and a creamy texture. Another fine and pretty balanced beer.

Douberd (2298) - Arnhem, NETHERLANDS - APR 10, 2013
330 ml bottle at home, poured into a tulip glass. ABV 8.5%. 1.83€ Very deep mahogany brown colour on the body, with dark ruby shades whem hold agianst the light. Huge head, almost four fingers, light beige in colour, very soapy thick with fantastic retention. I don’t think I have ever seen a beer’s foam holding so well and for so long before.Heavy lacing left around the glass as the foam goes slowly, very slowly, down. Aroma of roasted malts, along with sweet chocolate, and some yeast notes. Taste is a sweet one, but not sickenly sweet. Roasted malts here too, dark fruits, red grapes and a light alcohol taste, notable but not offensive, on the other hand it amplifies and intensifies all the other flavours. The yeast is not traceable at all until you get a sip with a bit of the ever-lingering foam. Medium to thick body, very good amount of carbonation and fairly dry on the palate. Overall this was a great beer. Very high drinkability and serious complexity. Recommended.
