3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
pretty good, seems a little thin as the flavours disappear quicker than they should but as long as they are there they’re nice enough - typical dark fruit/currants and yeast.

The Wolf 9 has a complex taste with an individual character. You might expect a Dubbel, but the Wolf 9 is far from being one. It’s a dark strong ale that welcomes you with a coffee flavor, soon accompanied by bitter hop notes and some citric hints. And even as this beer has 9%, the taste is much lighter which is a result of using barley and wheat malt. The only negative point is a slight hint of "wet dog" flavor. Not too present but detectable. The aftertaste is full of alcohol and some descent sweetness. Lasts for quite a while in the mouth.
Houling with the wolves? Definitely YES! This is very pleasant beer full of character with a slight hint of "wet dog" that irritates. Without, this beer would have scored significantly better.

Bottle. Peppery, yeasty aroma is banana ester, sugar syrup, fruity raisin with faint alcoholic brandy notes. Medium body, high effervescence, vibrant phenols, semi-sweet with relatively strong acid, bitterness and alcohol growing late. Definite date / plum and raisin Belgian malt quality. Flavorful and well-balanced.

Sampled at the M-Cafe in Leuven. Dark, malty smooth tasting ale with a little alcohol burn. Nice roast flavour and aroma. A decent beer.

Lupus’ second beer, with rocky head and reddish bronze colour. Very estery, apricot, apple, strawberry, spicy hints, brandy, flowery hops in the finish with some warming alcohol; aroma unfortunately with some DMS (cooked cabbage) again, like the other Lupus beers.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
330 ml bottle into tulip glass, BD-AC-BD bottle coding. Pours fairly hazy dark ruby red color with a 2 finger fairly dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big raisin, plum, apricot, pear, apple, banana, clove, pepper, caramel, toasted bread, brown sugar, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, dark malt, and earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of raisin, plum, apricot, pear, apple, banana, clove, pepper, caramel, toasted biscuit, brown sugar, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Good amount of earthy yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of raisin, plum, apricot, pear, apple, banana, clove, pepper, caramel, brown sugar, toasted bread, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, dark malt, and earthy hop flavors; with a very nice crisp malt/yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly prickly mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice Belgian strong ale. All around good complexity and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, dark malt, and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and crisp to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Flinke volle schuimkraag en het bier heeft een mooie amberkleur. Stijlvol etiket. Lekkere zachte smaak met een lichte bittere nasmaak.

750 c&c from Star Grocery in Berkeley, CA. 8.9% ABV. Brouwerij Lupus! Label is similar to illustration, but the 9 is in the lower right corner, and the wolf is displayed against a Belgian map in the national colors. Pours a 5 finger creamy off-white head with a little orange gold liquid in the bottom of the glass. Damned if it doesn’t bear some banana and pear aromas. Nearly full bodied. Flavor seems a bit metallic, the fruit esters are present, and there’s some malt. Actually not all that sweet. Nor is it very bitter. There is bitter, but it’s not rolling over the malt. Gets fruitier with time. Light stone fruit. Not really noticing the alcohol. Except in my head. Not a top type, but a good exemplar. I’m liking it.

Bottle 33cl. Ruby coloured with a cream top which lasts a long time. Aroma has sourness but is not very special. Taste is flat at first but soon the spices, and alcohol hit in. Has a long aftertaste. Quite good.
