4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
This pours a dark amber color with a foamy, beige head. Some grains in the aroma but mostly yeast. The texture is full of carbonation and the taste is surprisingly decent. One downside is the flavor is not as bold or complex as other Belgian Strong Ales. Even with 9% it sure doesn’t taste like it. Finishes with a bit of a banana spice after taste.

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured from a large-sized bottle into a low trappist style glass to drink. The beer had a hazy rich brown color with a dark amber hue and a huge foamy and a bit creamy off-white head with great retention featuring excellent lacing and cling. Its aroma featured a pleasant mix of floral and fruity tones, including banana, pear, and raisin, and a bit of spice. The taste was very sweet and sugary with mixtures of fruit, including pear and apricot, along with a very slight spice and touches of sour notes. The beer was fairly thin but had a quite big, filling mouthfeel with very high carbonation and a dry body. Excellent aroma, appearance, and palate characteristics, but a bit too sweet in taste.

33cl bottle from Belgian Beer Shop, Leuven. Subtle, mildly sweet nose, long lasting foamy head, initial caramel sweetness, rich amber colour, mildly hoppy bitterness, warming alcohol hit with a durable aftertaste. Very pleasant!

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
750 ml. corked and caged bottle. 8.9% ABV per the label. Pours a thick, well retained, light beige head, with some lacing, over a slightly hazy, copper (SRM 20) body.....nose is light roasted malt, with slight caramel tones, dark fruits, hops are earthy, spicy, esters are moderate with hints of allspice, cinnamon......taste is slightly sweet malts, with raisin, plum, hops add light bitterness, esters add allspice, cinnamon, finish dry.....mouth feel light of medium, alcohol warmth present, carbonation low, with a clean light acid finish. This falls into the Abt/Quad portion of the Belgian Strong Ale style. Using that yard stick, it is nicely balanced, but a bit simple. It needs more malt complexity and could use an oomph up in ester character. A slight adjustment of the malt bill and perhaps a different yeast or higher fermentation temperature. BJCP 8/3/15/5/7

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
750ml corked bottle. Amber-copper body with a big, foamy beige head. A pretty pedestrian Belgian Amber beer. Nice doughy mouthfeel, but the aroma is sort of bland and raisiny. Better than most US Belgians, but not really an impressive Belgian example. Doughy brown chocolate, toffee, caramel, rasiin, prune, plum. OK, close but not quite there.
