3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 davidbourne35 (12) - - APR 2, 2012Bottle, The Beer Emporium, Sandbach. Pours an amber colour with little head. Aroma of fruity malt as is the taste that builds to a dryish finish. Quite enjoyed this typical English bitter.

A golden hoppy ale, not too bitter and very refreshing, a complex balance of citrus, toffee and berries make for a smooth beer, with a slight bitter finish. There are strong aromas of hop and toffee with this beer, less head than some of the other beers from Lymestone but that helps maintain the balance with this take on a classic bitter. This ale would make a great session beer for the pale bitter lovers.

My first drink at National Winter Ales festival 2013. Half, hand pulled cask. Bright golden brown body. Bubbly ring to the rim of the glass. Smell of earthy malts joined by mild fruity notes. Taste of caramel malts with a fruity support. Oil-like bitter ending. Clean in the mouth. Thin to medium bodied. Decent Brit bitter (Manchester, 23.01.2013).

Bottle; deep amber, clear, no head; sweetish malt with some light roast / coffee notes, hops perhaps more earthy than piney/fruity; fairly bitter; moderate carbonation; balanced; found just rolling this one around in the mouth to be a real pleasure; not an especially long finish but nonetheless a very enjoyable straightforward bitter.

500ml Brown bottle, best before Jan 2012: poured into my Abbot Ale glass tankard in April 2012, some three months out of date.
Good looking beer: amber and clear, with a full, rocky head of white bubbles.
The nose is malty molasses with slight piney notes from the hops.
The taste is a crisp blend of semi-sweet maltiness and hop bitterness. Malts rule the initial flavours with the hops arriving later in the mouthfeel as the mouth begins to dry.
Easy to drink and although out of date I really enjoyed it.

Bottle. Bronze beer with a strong frothy head. The aroma is lightly hopped, and the flavour is toffee and bitter with a long finish. Overall a nice flavoursome plain bitter.

500ml bottle from Ales by Mail. Poured with a one finger lasting off-white head leaving a soapy lace atop a light chestnut brown body. Caramel & lightly roasted malt aromas. Light roasted malts, some sweet mid fruitiness, dishwater, tobacco and metallic touches at the back on the tongue. Light to medium body, soft to medium carbonation with a medium length dry & malty bitterness. Some bready, biscuity malt in the aftertaste. Alright but has something not particularly appealing - almost akin to a pasteurised quality - running throughout.

Noticeably dry texture, but good healthy tasting bitter with complex fruity aroma.
