3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
(Cask at GBBF, London Earl’s Court, 6 Aug 2009) Dark brown colour with brief, beige head. Malty nose with dark fruit, raisins and chocolate. Malty, fruity taste with notes of raisins, dark fruit and a long, bittersweet finish. More than medium body, fairly sweet. Vey nice beer.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask@GBBF2009. Deep ambery ruby colour with small head. Aroma is hops, fruits, wood, toffee, fudge and some slight mildly roasted notes. Flavour is nutty, caramelly, dark fruity a bit syrupy and also has some slight notes of alcohol.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Dark nut brown color, tiny beige head. Sticky grassy aroma - mix of glue and hops? Medium-bodied. Grassy and herbal hops, some caramel, alcohol, a bit sticky mouthfeel also. Weird.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Much better than their Foundation Stone. In fact a cracking beer. Dark with a small head and a fruity maltiness.
A bit thin for its strength but stilll well balanced with a complexity of flavours that was most interesting.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cask, at the Hop Pole, Aylesbury, Bucks, 20-01-09 Pours a dark brown almost mahogany colour but with some glints of red in there and with an off white creamy head. The aroma is Tate and Lyle black treacle and Riga’s black Balsam (interesting combinantion) In the mouth is dark muscovado sugars, a nice maltiness and even some liquorice. It has to be noted that the Riga’s Black Balsam and black treacle also get a look in, there is a real furriness at the roof of the mouth with this as well which I quite liked. I found this quite challenging (but in a really good way) and a most enjoyable beer. To be honest I wasn’t 100% certain on the style so I’m happyif someone wishes to change this. A7 A4 F7 P4 OV15 3.7
