COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Northwest’s original, unfiltered and dry hopped amber ale. African Amber’s pioneering and innovative style is proof that drink-abilty does not have to be achieved by sacrificing flavor. This beer erupts with a floral, hoppy taste, followed by a well rounded malty middle, finishing with a nicely organic hop flavor. Locally sourced two row grain and a blend of specialty malts give our amber its rich taste. Further complexity is achieved by leaving the beer unfiltered, providing exceptional flavor, as well as giving our amber its unique "cloudy" look. Lastly, we actually place a bag of fresh, locally grown, Yakima valley hops in each keg creating what has become the original, cult classic, northwest amber ale.

Hazy pumpkin color, frothy head.Surprisingly wan aroma - my first impression was that I’d be extremely disappointed with this beer. But the flavor is very rich and malty....not just a wall of caramel malt but nuanced and rich. Very drinkable and unique, unfiltered, this is quite nice.

Surprised first by the cloudy appearance then found it is unfiltered. And Damn is it good like that! Floral aroma with some spice shining through the clouds of beer. A one of a kind amber.

Mac and jacks amber Dark brown that has an orangeish hue. Very thick and cloudy, practically no head. Very little scent. Smells kind of like bitters and malt balls. Creamy mouth feel, wet finish. Very creamy malt taste similar to English ales, very mild, smooth and nice. A little filling but very good English style beer.

On tap at Portland Airport. Glowing amber ale. Tan head. Yeasty nose. Taste of caramel, malts, butterscotch. Chocolate notes. Pretty good.

Viking Spokane, wonderful pour. Almost Guinness like consistency of head. On top of a honey colored brew. First sip hints of coffee, but fresh. Not bitter. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft at College Inn. Used to be my regular pint during happy hour meetups whenever there weren’t any stouts or porters on tap. Changes a bit from batch to batch it seems, but this time the aroma was quite bread-heavy with honey in the mix as well. Hazy amber pour with minimal white head. Taste of toast, gran, bread, and some lemon-citrus going on. Moderately sweet, minimal (but non-zero) bitterness. Soft carbonation, medium body, smooth texture. Overall: perfectly pleasant and ubiquitous in the Seattle area.

This is the greatest NW beer, only passed by the Mac N Jack’s IPA. I get nostalgic for this sucker all the time.

On tap at the Seattle Taproom at the airport. Pours a murky and cloudy, amber-orange colored body with a thin, creamy, beige head that dissipates slowly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma is mainly sweet caramels with a light breadiness an touches of floral hops. Flavor is better. Medium sweet caramels with a light breadiness and graininess. Florals towards the end with a bit of a grass note as this finishes smooth and dry with a light bitterness. Medium length aftertaste following a medium body and a light carbonation. Overall, this wasn’t a bad amber, but there isn’t a whole lot to it. Smooth and easy drinking, but not sure where all the high ratings come from.

On tap at the Seahawks game. Cloudy red-amber colour, dense tan foam cap. Aroma is bread crusts, caramel, hints of nuts, fruity nuances. Flavour is rich toasty caramel, the fruity nuances really come forward here, and married to the sweetness, remind me somehow of my dad’s homemade raspberry jam. Very cool! Medium bitter finish. This far exceeded my expectations! I knew nothing about this beer, and finding it at a football stadium, I assumed it was a Miller or Anheuser Busch product masquerading as a craft beer-- SO HAPPY I WAS WRONG!!! This was great!

Apparently I’m supposed to fill this out. Take the numbers that I put down with a grain of salt if you will, but I’m just your average NW beer junkie looking to sample as many different brews as possible.
