Mac blackcat porter 11 3 13 4 6 3/22/08 On tap at the Cask Festival. Aroma is chocolate sweet with a creamy undertone. Appearance is dark brown with a moderate head. Flavor is simple and grainy. Mouthfeel is medium-high bodied with a medium carb texture. Overall, not bad, but the aroma way better than the flavor.

burnt coffee, nearly completely black. dry roast flavor doesn’t do a ton for the complexity, but makes it very easy to drink. i always fill up my growler with this since you can get the amber everywhere. french roasted coffee ground finish. too bad it’s 3am and i’m by myself, i’ll have to finish this growler alone before it goes bad

(Draught) Sampled at Taphouse in Seattle. Deep red with an almond-coloured head. Nose of mild coffee. Minor diacetyl and a bland, buttery finish. Poor.

Pint draft at Africa Grill in Seattle Airport (A Gate area of Sea-Tac). Pour is black, with a thin 1/2 inch khaki head. Aroma of some roasted malt. Served too cold for Porter. Taste is a grainy, roast malt with some decent hop bitterness in the finish. Not complex by any means, but well built and very drinkable. This was my favorite Mac and Jack’s (of 3) to date.

Black color. Aroma is pretty light with hints of roast. The flavor is light too. The roast is pretty much the only thing going on here except for a little funky hop finish. It was smooth, but it was rather bland.

Draught, Africa Lounge, Sea-Tac airport. Head is mostly diminishing. Body is dark brown to black. Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, cocoa, husks), lightly hoppy (grapefruit, resin). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter, husky. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Dull and husky, not a good rendition.

On tap at the EMP. Pours a dark brown color, semi-transparent, with shades of rootbeer and cherry wood, topped by a creamy layer of light tan head. Aromas of dry chocolate, toast, and a subtle hint of ashy smoke. Not really any roast character per say, but just a lot of toasty smooth dark malts. Medium bodied, lightly carbonated, milky smooth mouthfeel. Lots of chocolate and mild roast coffee on the tongue. Finishes dry and smooth with minimal roast bitterness, leaving a pleasant chocolate malt residue lingering. Satisfying porter with no troublesome qualities.

Draft at The Brooklyn, downtown Seattle. Dark brown, nearly black, dark garnet highlights at the corners. Thin tan head. Nose is a little on the underdeveloped side, kinda roasty and chocolatey in spots. Body’s a little too light and soft but lots of nice gentle chocolate flavors along with some soft sweet roasty malt. For all the timidity of the nose and attack, the balance and flavorfulness of this one is very winsome.
