2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottled at Bull & Castle, Dublin. Clear orange/brown, rocky head. Marked roasty/peaty aroma and flavour. Mid sweet with clean, soapy mouthfeel and light body. Salty and peaty with growing resiny bitterness. Despite pleasant surface the character is shallow.

Golden-amber. Caramel nose with some butter. Watery. Thin caramels and light fruity notes. Boring industrial amber.

500 ml can. Clear red/brown ale with pleasing head. Medium bitter taste, long on the palate. a very traditional Irish ale now manufactured by Diageo but has not lost its old-fashioned charm. For fans of the writings of Patrick McCabe, it is the beer of choice of many of his strange characters.

Grand. A bit like Smithwicks. A bit watery, but some hoppy taste, finishes with slight bitterness.

Pours darkish red with a small head. The aroma is surprisingly pleasant., sweat caramel malt and not as subdued as I expected. The flavour is more predictably bland and prosaic, crystal malt initially, giving way to some caramel on the finish, a little fruity. Boring overall.

Can courtesy of garthicus. Dark copper with a good sized slightly off-white head. Mild aroma of grainy malt with a hint of grassy hops. Light body. Flavour is simple but not bad - mildly sweet and a bit earthy to start, with a decently bittered finish. Not very exciting, but quite quaffable.

tap at the Brazen Head in Dublin - Pours amber with a lasting white head. There’s a mild, malty aroma. The flavor is sweet and malty with a little caramel. The palate is thin and watery. Mediocre.

Amber beer with a hint of bready malt and light toffee flavour. Medium body, dry finish, not hugely clean, bit of bitterness. Nothing special.

Had a dark red body with a decent white head that lasted. Alas that was where the good bit ended. Tasted of little except for slight caramel and roasted flavours that had to be searched out. Also had that annoying steel taste that comes with many drinks from a can. Was full-bodied at least but was also quite fizzy. Not great but it was cheap.
