(translated) Ludwig Bayer has since 1878 been in Mack’s portfolio, and is a beer type that originates from Bayern in Germany. With considerable elements of dark malt types Ludwig Bayer is our darkest beer with a delightful dark color. This is a copious beer with a fine sweetness. With a mild element of hops Ludwig Bayer gets a light bitterness in the end. Enjoy this beer by 8 - 10 degrees C, preferably from a glass. Ludwig Bayer can be enjoyed with medium strong meat dishes or as a thirst extinguisher with good friends.

Editor’s note: Formerly known as Mack Ludwig Premium Bayer

500 ml on tap @ "Ølhallen" Mack Bryggeri September 25, 2013 Brown/copper in color with a beige head. Nice malty aroma. A bit sweet in a positive way. A bit short aftertaste probably, because it is less than 5 % alcohol. The finish is slightly bitter.

Donker bier van deze noordelijkste brouwerij. Geur: beetje bokbierachtig. Smaak: karamel, gebrande mout en wat bitter. Niet bijzonder, maar wel prima!

Clear, mahoney body. Aroma mainly of cloyingly sweet malts, cane sugar with hints of hops. Heavily sweet, lightly bitter flavour.

50 cl can. Pours a deep copper to mahogany colour, thick tan coloured head, nice level of carbonation. Aromas of caramel, brown sugar, nuts an acid apples. Mouthfeel is medium carbonation and dry. Flavours pretty much as the aroma, just less nuts and more green apples. Which don’t make any sense in a Bavarian.

Caramel flavor. Decent frothy head. The aroma is vaguely caramel-dominated, some light bitterness, malts. The beer itself is pretty light and refreshing, no big surprises, just a basic Norwegian bayer with the usual hints of caramel, malts and a very small kick of hops. A certain hint of apple as well. It’s not a super beer in any way, but way more drinkable than a lager when the options are few. Try it with home made pizza (made at Bardu hotell), it enhances the flavor of the beer several notches and brings some of the alcohol forward.

Bottle @ Viking line. Brown colored, thin off white head. Cardboard, old bread, toasty aroma. Flavors hard to find, light bready, dusty notes. Watery. Very boring stuff.

Bottle. Brown mahogany colour. Murky brown malty, sort of cardboardy. Feels like its been through a (brown) coffee filter. Some syrupy sweets on nose. Light bodied, bland. Dark bread. Murk.
