On tap at Blå Rock Tromsø, where it said Mack Spesial. Apperance; Black with a fine lasting lightbrown head. A nice aroma, Malt and some dark fruits, prunes? The flavor is pretty strange and interesting, at first I tasted Black currant and grapes, and after a while i felt the prunes again. I was really surprised of this nice beer with lots of flavor from Mack! (19.03.2009)

Tap. Dark, almost black body. Nice creamy off white head. Did not last long. Surprisingly fresh sourish aroma. Hints of butter. Light sour flavour. Some butter. A bit dry. Bitter finish. Maybe a little watery. I don’t think the flavour matched a stout, it was more like a steamer or maybe IPA. (Ølhallen, Tromsø, 05.03.09)

Bottle, 75cl corked. A huge thanks to Finn for providing the bottle, and to Rune for hauling it from the colder parts of Norway! Cheers guys! After struggling a bit to uncork it, Finn had added some extra protection, it poured a black body and a nice, dense, beige head. Burnt malts, coffee, some dried fruits and a tiny little touch of cheese on the nose. It’s full-bodied and quite effervescent, with flavors of burnt malts, coffee, some fruity hops and a little cheesy touch. At first I thought the cheese was caused by old hops, but would it then have a fruity hop-taste? Anyhow, it finishes on the malty side, with bitterness from the burnt or heavily roasted malts rather than from the hops. It’s a quite nice one, but I’m not sure what I really think. There’s the disturbing cheesy touch, but on the other hand it’s a tasteful and quaffable beer. I wouldn’t shy away from having it again though, that’s for sure. One more thing; this must be the first Norwegian beer to be filled on 75cl bottles with wooked corks. At least at this side of WWII. Kudos to Mack for that, and for trying out new styles. (081215)

On tap at Ølhallen in Tromsø. Black. A good looking mocha colored head that lasted for a while. Roasted malty aroma. A well integrated flavor of fruit, roasted malt & chocolate. A sweet bitter aftertaste developing. Enjoyed it also at home on a 0,75l bottle. KI=9

Hand bottled, thanks a lot to Rune for bringing this down to Oslo! Fruity, lots of flavour, a hint of smoke. Prunes, chocolate. Easy drinking, very moreish.

500ml served a bit too cold from tap at Ølhallen in Tromsø. Brilliant clarity of a body coloured in a dark-rusty coat. Beige-yellow head, slowly diminishing. Moderate smell of plain dark malts. Well balanced taste of dark berries, roasted grain and leather. Satisfying ending length of bitter prunes. Dry and refreshing. Medium bodied. Enjoyed on a Friday afternoon just after work in friendly company [21.11.2008].
