1.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 czar (2232) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 26, 2013
(really? am i just not a sweet stout fan? am i off or the thousands of ratings are?) pours hazy dark brown with a nice but suddenly collapsing beige head. ashy roastiness, chocolate nuttiness, intentional but awkward lactose, sweetness, plain roasted partially fermented cereals, burnt sugar and molasses. average to sof carbonation, light body, bittering coffee and cloying metallic finish. horrid brew with such a high rating. 90% DP.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Spab (1645) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 22, 2013
330 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a very dark brown with fairly creamy light brown head. Aroma is lightly roasty and moderately sweet with lots of anise and a little chocolate. Flavour is also probably more sweet than roasty with lots of licorice character, some chocolate and a little lactic sourness. Average body. Mouthfeel relatively creamy. Rather nice.

Well carbonated brew with a black colour. roast aroma, chocolate, big malted note and a hint of caramel. Bitter tasting brew with a roasted bite, sweet milky note, fruit cake and actually has some depth of flavour. well done.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 kevinsenn (552) - Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 10, 2013
Bottle from LCBO. Pours black, opaque, with a tan head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, and leather. Sweet milkshake and coffee taste, quickly leading into a very roasty and bitter finish. Thick mouthfeel. Enjoyable.
2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 probstblueribbon (2378) - Nepean, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 9, 2013
300 ml bottle from LCBO (random find), served cool in a tulip glass.
App.: Deep brown-black with a fairly large mocha head.
Aroma: Lots of roasted grains, big on the coffee, smells very dry, oddly grainy, a touch of tang, some new odours that I can’t quite describe, a bit odd.
Palate: Medium body, fine and sparse effervescence.
Flav.: Tons of roasted grain, some coffee, also some cardboard, a touch of grape-like fruitiness, a touch ashen, a bit of a sugary “flavour”...hard to pinpoint, a bit friendlier than the nose, still not great; nearly dry with gentle bitterness and a somewhat abrupt finish.
Not something I would reach for again.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 solidfunk (1790) - Ontario, CANADA - MAR 7, 2013
A little sweet for my liking, though still a very decent offering. Pours pitch black with decent head and lacing. Aroma of coffee and lots of caramel. Finishes sweet and coffee bitter. Average carbonation, consistency on the syrupy side. Bottle.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 16/20 Frothmeister (385) - Ontario, CANADA - MAR 7, 2013
330ml bottle. Pours a beautiful dark, dark brown with a good sized mocha coloured head. The nose is coffee meets caramel with some cocoa, biscuit and earthy notes. Thin bodied, and sweet with espresso, mineral notes, caramel, it has an iced coffee thing going on. As I said thin bodied, but it totally works to it’s advantage. I want more now! Easy drinking, and 4.9%. This is pretty great stuff.
3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 pootzboy (1451) - Hawgville, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 5, 2013
Bottle - pours a deep opaque black with a 3 finger puffy mocha cap - mderate retention and good lacing qualities. Aroma is rather undertated but there is enough roasty -lactose tones to leav a definate impression. Flavour has roasty, cocoa, coffee, tastes up front, decernable bitterness but the lactose sweetness comes in in the finish - not cloying but demure. Rather a light body for the style but as a commercial effort this is very decent. I’ll buy more before it vanaishes from the government dairy bar shelves.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 Malty_MacHops (562) - Eastanollee, Georgia, USA - MAR 4, 2013
Robust coffee and roast malt aromas with some chocolate. Deep black with a syrupy tan head. Sweet coffee and chocolate with some roast bitterness for balance. Full bodied with a sweet finish.
