COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor’s Note: This is a higher alcohol version of the British Mackeson Stout. Brewed chiefly in the United States by Boston Beer Co. at their Cincinnati location (the old Hudepohl brewery). Also brewed at the Carib Brewery in St. Kitts for the eastern Caribbean market.

275mL brewed in Trinidad and Tobago and distributed to Barbados. The pour is an excellent near black with an enormous, tan head erupting. Great, poofy lace. Aroma is heavy metallic, corn, copper penny. Taste is very sweet upfront moving to watery and light bitterness. Palate is oily, sugary sweet, definitely cloying.

Bottle. Dark color. Not one of the better stouts. Kind of bitter, like motor oil flavored coffee. Still drinkable. Smells dark and burnt.

This is for the Carib/St. Kitts version. Pour is dark with a deep head. Aroma is full and of roasted malts, light molasses, some milky notes, chocolate, and mild booze. Flavor is much of the same with the roasted malts a significant player but not the nearly burnt notes I picked up from Guinness FE. Smooth and relaxing to drink. While it was easier to find Guinness FE in St. Maarten, the Mackeson was a more enjoyable beach drinking stout.

Bottle Poolside Bar, Le Meridien Pegasus Hotel, Georgetown, Guyana. Probably bottled in St. Kitts (Do I get country credit for this?) Pours near-black with thick tan head. Roast malt aroma with sweet caramel and chocolate notes. Full bodied and creamy. Taste is somewhat sweet but not cloying chocolate and caramel notes. A very nice beer.

In short: A slimy fruity chocolaty stout that felt off. Bad bottle? Need to try again
How: Bottle 12oz. Given to me by mcox90. Thanks Michael
The look: Black body topped by a small tan head
In long: Nose is moderately roasted. Taste is very fruity with baked dark fruits, raisins, fruit cake, etc. Some chocolate notes and crème caramel. The fruity character was reaching dark grapes at moments. Body was slimy. The whole didn’t work for me and I suspect a bad bottle. I need to revisit this beer. I suspect my bottle was old. You can call it a hunch, because yes, my back and shoulders are bent forward.

The last of my back log. Pours black. Nose and taste of alcohol, strong chocolate malts, toasted malts. Rated 11/7/2000
