One of my favorite stouts. My neighbor gave ma a bottle. Black pour, tan (small) head. Aroma of caramel, chocolate, coffee, toast, flavors are excellent. creamy, medium body (even on the light side for a stout), , light sweetness, toast, roasty, taste, great balance and complexity. Great finish (a little smoky flavor). Highly recommend!

What a terrific stout! Opaque brown-black with a full tan head and swirls of lace over the entire glass. The taste is very clean roasted caramel malt that, in the middle of the palate, adds a dash of semi-sweet milk chocolate that turns more bitter as it moves through the finish. A full-bodied stout, that doesn’t overdo coffee and chocolate, makes it a complete winner. One of the best stouts I have enjoyed.

I bought this in St Thomas was looking for anything brewed locally to the island. This was a great beer. It was smooth and refreshing. It poured black with a little head. It had a light body and a creamy milky texture. There were lots of chocolate and coffee flavours. A great beer similar to the other Stouts I have had from the Caribbean.

355ml bottle pours almost black in color with a 2 finger off-white head that settles slowly and reveals some decent lacing on the glass. Aroma is dark chocolate and roasted grains with some sweet malts. Taste is bitter chocolate and hops with a milky sweetness with some hints of caramel. A nicely done brew that is recommended.

Aroma of bitter chocolate, caramel, light roast, oak, vanilla. Appearance is pitch black body with sticky, mocha head with lacing all over the glass. Flavor has some element of slightly meaty smoke, bitter chocolate, light roast with some berries; the finish has some smoke and light bitterness and lingering roast. One complaint I have is that the smoke in the finish really coats the tongue. Palate is very bubbly and chewy. Pretty good.

Jet black pour, minimal head, wispy lacing. Aroma is smoky, nutty, coffee, peanut butter cup. Light bodied, creamy lactose sweetness, yet it has a dry woody mouthfeel. HInts of Frangelico, Amaretto, and charred wood. Outstanding sweet stout at 4.9% ABV.

Rating #56 for 2012. 12oz bottle cool, from a laser cut shaker glass. Heavy roasted malt aroma with some hazelnut sweetness. 1/4 inch reddish brown head that quickly fades and light wispy lacing. Tastes of gourmet coffee, malt, and hazelnut. Palate, light body with medium carbonation, finishes frothy. Not a bad stout, will drink again and re-rate.

330 ml bottle, label says best before December 2012. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours dark brown with about an inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both good. The brew smells like roasted malt, chocolate, and a bit of smoke. Taste is similar to the aroma, but there’s the addition of some lactose. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s smooth and slick with a good amount of carbonation. I think it’s a good overall brew. Picked up a single at Liquor Barn.

I was very surprised to find this in Tobago (June 2008). The label said ’THE ORIGINAL AND GENUINE IMPORTED EST 1742’ but in small print it claimed it was brewed and bottled at Carib etc, etc (for Interbrew UK Ltd). 275ml Brown bottle poured into a half-pint tumbler on the hotel balcony. Really dark, jet black in fact, with a good deep tan head. Chocolate aroma, sweet dark caramel, malty too. Rich, thick and creamy in the mouthfeel, treacle flavours came through as well. A lovely drink, just as good as the real Mackeson that I remember from my youth.
