Similar to Sam Adams Cream Stout - more body yet also more sticky/cloying. The head looked like the picture above for about 45 seconds. Taste -roasty, coffeeish - sour aftertaste yet creamy beginning. Overall a good beer but not great - I’ll stick with oatmeal stouts personally, but I wouldn’t turn this down a second time. Cheers!

Dark and thick with a creamy head. Sweet and coffee like the whole way. This Is definetly an after dinner drink. One of those love it or hate type of beers.

I don’t know if its the dry roasted oats flavor of the american stouts i had earilier in the evening, or my sketchy mom comming downstairs as i was sampling but this didn’t meet my expectations. aroma was awsome, i had it in my lap and smelled it. the taste was slightly watered down though.

I really liked this. You’ll never smell a better stout, and the light body makes this stout less of a meal and more of a snack.

UPDATED: AUG 17, 2003 One of my favorite stouts and its hard to believe its taken me this long to get around to rating it. Everytime I sip it, I say 'Oh God thats good'. Nice sweet and slight roasted flavor. Very rich and thick.<P>A recent revisiting of this stout has me concerned. I've lowered the numbers not because of the recent sampling but just because I was shooting just a tad too high even for how I remember this to be. But the recent sampling? I would only give that maybe a 2.9! Aroma was still chocolatey but the light roast was missing. Aroma was weaker with some sour milk. Flavor was more sour milk, light chocolate, little roast presence. Too much tang on the whole. I didn't finish it. Bad bottle? Bad palate? Bad memory? I don't know and that's why I'm not going to base the rating on that sample, but I'm writing up here just as a potential concern. Appearance still nice, dark black tinged brown, dark brown yet thin head.

Mmmm, mmmmmm good. Damn, I’ve heard this stout recommended more times than I care to recall. I’ve never been able to get my hands on it in Utah though. Well, there’s a great restaurant/bar in Chattanooga, TN that has a couple hundred beers available. This was one of them...and I couldn’t help but to order a bottle. Mackeson’s actually lived up to the hype. It was very alcoholic, it almost seemed to border on being an imperial stout. It was nicely balanced however...with a great roasty finish. Very good beer. Not for the timid...but an excellent stout to be sure.

I like this stout. It is very sweet and chocolatey. If you don’t like those qualities in your stout, I suggest you pass on this one. Hard to drink more than one.
