2002 Vintage ~ "The only oat malt stout in the world."
12/06/2007: McLay & Co Ltd Oat Malt Stout has a color that is very dark brown to near black (black walnut or deep mahogany would be more descriptive terms). It is topped with a frothy tan-colored head. The deep red wine (merlot) aroma makes this beer smell very port-like. There are also hints of oxidation and a slightly mustiness. The dry flavor has hints os smoke/char, some oxidation and chocolate, red wine and port (not too much), and some sort of dark fruit or dried apricot. The beer has a medium body and a soft, smooth, and mellow texture. Overall this is a very good stout that is unique, memorable, and quite complex!
1 pt. 0.9 fl. oz. bottle shared by Peanut at the Dilly Deli in Mariemont, Ohio. Thank you so much! Rating #10 for this beer.

Bottle from Peanut at Dilly Deli. Poured clear black with a mimimal creamy light brown head that mostly diminished and produced fair lacing. Good roasted malty and port aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture. Medium complex roasted flavor with a medium pleasing bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Glad I got to try this one.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 chriso (7062) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 8, 2007
Cask at the Southsider, Edinburgh. Vintage notes from January 1997. Digging out these old notes because this beer seems to be retired. Surprisingly good (but not great). Smooth and a bit sweet but not too sickly. Burnt malt gives the impression of some bitterness. Creamy head. 6/10 on my old scoring sytem.

Nice thick dark liquid with a good head. Definitely a full round flavor as the commercial description describes. Good full malt flavor with a faint sweetness. Smooth full and creamy texture. Nice toasty finish.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 hopscotch (7288) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - NOV 7, 2002
This beer rocks.
The commercial description will have to suffice since I didn’t take any notes while enjoying this beer. However, if you enjoy other sweet stouts that I have rated highly, this one will not disappoint you.
