Very pale with a bleached white head. Little aroma but maybe wheaty, lemony. Light body. Faint wheat note. Bland, with a quick, somewhat wet finish.

April 7 2012. 473ml can poured into pint glass. Pours pale straw yellow with a very thick (2-3") white pillowy head. Head bubbles down at edge but leaves merengue finish. Diminishes to ring but leaves good lacing. Aroma is sweet floral and citrus. Very light watery palate , easy drinking. Mild taste, sweet with little aftertaste of hops. Cheap and good beer at 5% to drink right from can.

355ml can pours a pale golden color with a 2 finger white head that dissipates almost immediately leaving no lacing. Aroma is cheap grains and hops. Taste is light cereal grains and a harsh hop bitterness which is not desirable. This is just a terrible beer and an insult to the brewers of Scotland.

Starch white foamy head as a pillow with a darker yellow body. Aroma is almost nothing, just a hint of cardboard. Flavour is citrus with a hint of hops and paper, followed by a watery finish. This is a very bad lager.

Originally rated August 2005. This beer is brewed under licencse by Sleeman Maritimes for a so-called Thistle Brewery in Alloa, Scotland. Found it new at the Beer Store in Ottawa, in the Value Brands section. Pours a pale golden colour with not much head, not much retention and no lacing. Also not found is carbonation. Starts off very boring. The nose is malty and the taste is smooth with a grain malt finish. The Beer Store also advertise this one as a lager. Don’t know if this is an error, or reality, and Sleeman is fucking with us. Anyways, quite decent for the price (when drank from the bottle), but boring as hell when poured into a glass. Recommended from the bottle as refreshing.

Traditional pale ale? This tastes like boiled down piss! Colour’s a touch lighter than that, though no less appealing,\. Aftertaste of stale lettuce..

Can from LCBO- Maclay’s: Scottish for Drainpour. Pours golden without much going on on the nose. It;s called a pale ale but I don’t think they remembered to hop this one. Lots of fizzy carbonation. no payoff

Can sample. I rate this brew as high as I do because of the simple fact that it is very reliable and is exactly what I expect every time I have it. Pours a golden yellow, with a surprisingly large white head and a little lace. Aroma is sweet and and can be a little skunky at times. Tastes of grain and a little hops. I like this beer what else can I say.

473 ml can from LCBO. Pours a clear golden colour with modest-sized white head. Aroma is grassy and grainy. Taste is grainy with a decent grassy finish - not as sweet or corny as most macro swill but rather bland.
