(Bottle 33 cl) Clear, pale golden with a neat, dense, white head leaving laces. Fresh bubblegum aroma combined with some coriander and oranges. Light in body with a soft mouthfeel and very fresh fruit notes, a whiff of yeast also. There’s a light underlying sweetness. The finish is dry without any real bitterness. A very well made version of a Belgian Wit. 290108

Bottle. Pale straw yellow, slightly unclear, moderate white head, no lace. Fresh floral citrus aroma, cardamom and almost a kaffir lime note. Palate delivers similar flavours, with some ginger spice as well. Medium sweetness, dry finish. Nice.

Draft. A hazy light yellow beer with a lazing white head. The aroma has strong notes of wheat as well as light notes of straw. The flavor is sweet with notes of wheat and malt, leading to a dry wheaty finish.

330ml bottle, in a Hoegaarden tumbler. After 6 bottles at various times I managed to get most of the aromas mentioned on the bottle. Banana, bubblegum, citrus, cloves mostly with this bottle. Light golden hue, cloudy with large white rocky head mostly diminishing, minimal lacing. Moderately sweet, mildly bitter, a touch of sourness and some ginger spiciness. Light to medium body, creamy mouth feel, average carbonation, light dry finish. I fully acknowledge that there are much better Witbiers in the world but at under $NZ 10 for 6 bottles this is a good value hot afternoon refreshment in the same way Macs Hop Rocker is.

...bottle. I thought this was a solid effort, and was inpressed, due to it being from NZ. Nice orange, corriander and clove notes, with wheat malt. Seems to be a blend of a Hefe and a WIt, which are great styles to combine. Was medium bodied, creamy with a nice citrus bubblegum finish. I will try this again, and I’m pretty sure it was moderately priced too. Definitely worth trying.

UPDATED: FEB 10, 2009 A cloudy appearance with a pillowy white head. Aromas of hops, slight malt and a hint of bubblegum. Kind of yeasty. Quite a clean, watery mouthfeel. Sweet flavours of bubblegum and citrus, but mostly hops. A great member of the Macs family.

Forewarned a year ago by an importer this is just a relabelled ’Blonde Mac’ I put off trying it up ’til now. Expectations being low it did surprisingly well, to be honest. Straight into a witbier tumbler fresh chilled from the fridge. It pours a palish ’Lemsip™’ looking, faintly hazy, lemony yellow with a thin, densely formed crown of white that doesn’t do well to leave much evidence behind on the glass. Some lightly herbal, fresh, spicy, nutmeg and lemon cordial laced notes greet the nose. Quite creamy, fluffy in the mouth, and leaning on soda-stream lemonade in flavour - almost watery. Nutmeg again, some chives, a sweet front that lingers of fruit sugars like pear drops; a little lemon and wheat-malt notes around the mid-section. Tangy, zingy, slightly sour finish with more rough cut fresh herbs in the swallow. Altogether working in balance, it doesn’t hurt the palate as too bad a quaffer. It took ten minutes to review and the glass was empty, so bonus points. (33cL, 21/09/07, The Beer Store Morley)
