Bottle, Leopold Bottlo, WA
Pungent Kiwi Hops aromsa, in a classic golden pour with nice white head. Stern bitterness with pleasing malt profile. A great session beer.

As much I’d love to knock Macs (as one of the big big boys in NZ), I found the Hop Rocker to be rather decent. It is simple, and not overly fruity, but a nice crisp clean pilsner none-the-less.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Very pleasant light NZ pils. I love this style, when the hops are not over done, as is the case here, you have the perfect beer for pairing with almost any takeaway food you can imagine. Just enough of a hint of NZ saaz to keep things interesting, really refreshing, really pleasant.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Why is this called a pale lager when the bottle says it is a pilsner? Very pale colour ans light creamy head but the nose is not as assertive as some say. There is a degree of NS hops but this is not a common hop at the moment so I can’t be definitive about how it impacts upon the beer. The flavour and mouthfeel is quite thin and sharp with too much carbonation. Just an average beer.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
A big well held fluffy head and citrus aromas. Very nicely balanced but full on hoppy flavour, with some good saltiness at the end. A good but different form of pils.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a nice bright gold with a medium sized head. Pretty big fruity NZ (nelson savin) hop aroma. Flavour dominated by the NS hops. Body seemed a bit on the thin side but pleasing none the less. Pretty good stuff.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a clear golden with a white head. Big citrus-fruity hops aromas. Only slight maltyness (could have a bit more IMHO). Medium bodied. Nice carbonation. Short malty, long fruity finnish. Most hoppy beer I´ve had in NZ.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Clear, bright gold body with a touch of bronze and a decent white head. Nelson Sauvin hops seems to be all the rage at the moment and you can pick this up on the aroma and then a bit in the taste. Fairly light in body, at first taste it was quite good but then just a bit grainy.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
A nice aroma with faint orange flower notes initially, and some warm grain mush after the head dissipated. On tasting the crystal malt really dominates, unfortunately that is not what I was expecting so it didn’t go down too well (I should have read the label first!!). Can’t really notice the cascade, but the nelson sauvin seems more noticeable, albeit only the second different beer I’ve had that uses that hop. After a few mouthfulls the sweetness is a bit sickly, and there doesn’t seem to be any crispness to dry it out. That seems to be my main gripe with this beer, but it’s big enough for me to knock it down a few pegs. (PS with a little left in the bottom of the glass the aroma is a bit like that of a typical european lager!!)

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
An interesting beer in the shall we say marlborough lager style. pleasant but faint floral hop aroma with slight NZ catpissiness, not as aromatic as expected. lovely gold colour with excellent dense oily head with staying power although this could be my new ritzenhoff pilsener glass. very light body, nice delicate balance between pilsener malt and grapey hop, with a gentle growing hoppy, peppery dryness to finish. well-executed but basically insubstantial and insipid stuff that aims to convert drinkers of mass-produced tasteless piss to the delights of semi-mass produced tasteless piss of slightly higher quality.
