Lager and crystal malt. Nelson Sauvin hops for bittering, with more Sauvin and NZ Cascade for aroma.

Pours a nice bright gold with a medium sized head. Pretty big fruity NZ (nelson savin) hop aroma. Flavour dominated by the NS hops. Body seemed a bit on the thin side but pleasing none the less. Pretty good stuff.

Pours a clear golden with a white head. Big citrus-fruity hops aromas. Only slight maltyness (could have a bit more IMHO). Medium bodied. Nice carbonation. Short malty, long fruity finnish. Most hoppy beer I´ve had in NZ.

Clear, bright gold body with a touch of bronze and a decent white head. Nelson Sauvin hops seems to be all the rage at the moment and you can pick this up on the aroma and then a bit in the taste. Fairly light in body, at first taste it was quite good but then just a bit grainy.

A nice aroma with faint orange flower notes initially, and some warm grain mush after the head dissipated. On tasting the crystal malt really dominates, unfortunately that is not what I was expecting so it didn’t go down too well (I should have read the label first!!). Can’t really notice the cascade, but the nelson sauvin seems more noticeable, albeit only the second different beer I’ve had that uses that hop. After a few mouthfulls the sweetness is a bit sickly, and there doesn’t seem to be any crispness to dry it out. That seems to be my main gripe with this beer, but it’s big enough for me to knock it down a few pegs. (PS with a little left in the bottom of the glass the aroma is a bit like that of a typical european lager!!)

An interesting beer in the shall we say marlborough lager style. pleasant but faint floral hop aroma with slight NZ catpissiness, not as aromatic as expected. lovely gold colour with excellent dense oily head with staying power although this could be my new ritzenhoff pilsener glass. very light body, nice delicate balance between pilsener malt and grapey hop, with a gentle growing hoppy, peppery dryness to finish. well-executed but basically insubstantial and insipid stuff that aims to convert drinkers of mass-produced tasteless piss to the delights of semi-mass produced tasteless piss of slightly higher quality.

Bright gold in colour with thin white head. Floral hop aroma, weak bitter taste, clean fresh finish.

Tasted 26/12/06 - Greymouth Countdown. Nice gold in the glass, fluffy head. Citrus & a bit of something in the aroma I couldn’t quite get. Biggish hop influence (surprise) but by the 3rd or 4th bottle was starting to get a bit sickly. Nice to see some flavor from the big boys for a change but not enough here to worry any finer craft effort.

Poored well to give a large white head. Light golden colour. Head settled to a thin covering. Pineapple aroma, nice, but not in keeping with the pilsner style. Not crisp enough and lacking carbonation. Sweetness, too heavy mouthfeel. Compared to the Tuatara I just had it is lacking.

330 ml. bottle, served in a lager glass on 5/12/06. Medium gold with a rapidly dissipating white head. Orangey herbal flavour and aroma with a nice oily quality. I’m sick of tasting water all the way through my beer, so the above qualities are a nice change. Shame about the price, though - NZ$13.??/six-pack. Also, with a name like ’Hoprocker’, the people who created it should at least have tried to compete with some of the "bigger" foreign beers.

Tasted 17/11/2006. 33oml bottle from New World Miramar. Pale to mid-gold with a pure white, disappearing, airy head. Orange oils and herbal notes on the nose, pleasantly fresh and hoppy. Dry in the mouth, with lovely pungent hop flavour - herbal and fruity - and an oily finish that’s screams Sauvin! It’s actually more bitter in the finish than I first thought. Herbal oily notes linger. Fresh. Pretty good drinking but it’s going to be a love it or hate it bere. I love the hops but I hate the name, enough so to deduct a point. Dorkus malorkus marketing man tries to emulate Hopsmacker (and sadly, nobody over-ruled it!?).
