Gentle wafts of hay and orange come from a perfect golden lager with a frothy, lingering head. Surprisingly complex in the mouth, biscuity malt is rolled over by a bit of tart, rough hop flavour. Lingering bitter aftertaste. Quite nice, and a lot better than I expected from one of New Zealandís unimaginative big commercial brewers. But through one reason or another (the brewery having to relocate due to the Christchurch earthquake? A desire to challenge the growing craft market on their own terms?). Whatever the reason, this is a very full and flavoursome New Zealand Pilsner style - not as hopped as some, and the malt is bettered by others, but as a middle-of-the-road, hot summerís afternoon sort of pilsner, this does well.

Draft at the Fox in Auckland. Pours clear gold with a white head. Crisp malty base, clean, and faint floral bitterness. Finishes crisp clean and refreshing. Super drinkable.

Restrained fruity aroma in a golden pour. Nicely balanced taste with clean bitter finish. Not bad for a mass market beer - and one of the best from this brewery.

12oz bottle pours a golden color with a bit of head. Some mild hops, but otherwise tastes like a pale lager style.

UPDATED: AUG 25, 2015 OK go-to beer when thereís little else on offer. This used to be better, but I think the accountants have taken control and dropped the hops. Go for the Macs Green Beret if it is alongside - thatís quite decent for a mass market brew

Draft in Blenheim, 11/5/2014. Pours a pale golden color, frothy head with nice lacing. Aroma is straw, medium sweetness, pear, light grass. Aroma is light pilsener malt, light sweetness, spicy hop kick in the middle, lingering mild toast bitterness. Light body. Decent pilsener with more pronounced hop profile.

Interesting pilsner with some fresh and herbal hops. Golden colour with a white head. Far awway from standard industrial pilsner . Good!

Thin bright white head of fine bubbles. Skunks ass in the aroma. Seems like it is loaded with saaz hops. I can already feel the headache coming on. Some light lemon and rice in the aroma too. Color is a clear gold with almost no carbonation. Light cereal grains, lemongrass and straw in the flavor. Significant lingering bitter with very little body. Not a beer i would recommend. Not my cup of tea!

Tasted 8/2/2014. BB 23/08/14. Poured a clear golden colour with a one-finger white bubbly head that diminished quickly to a collar that laced very poorly. Carbonation low with medium sized bubbles. Aroma of clean fresh sweet malt with passionfruit and maybe other tropical fruits. Taste is clean with slightly fruity sweetness and very slight bitterness. Light body. OK but does not distinguish itself from any other pilsner.
