Commercial Description:
A light coloured, low alcohol lager crafted with all the best characteristics of a full-strength beer. A secret batch brewing process, unique to Mac's, allows the yeast to produce no more than 1% alcohol/volume. Mac's Light is brewed using choice Motueka hops and quality barley, which is malted in our own malthouse. Mac's Light is a naturally brewed, low alcohol lager which contains no added chemicals, preservatives or colouring.

Judging this within its own peer group of the low-alcohol niche, it stands up quite nicely. Clean grainy pale malt aroma and flavour, none of the apple-juice character that seems to curse this style so often. Low hop bitterness adds a little character. Thin, to be sure, but that’s not a surprise.

Tasted 16/12/2007. Bottle at the SOBA HomeBrewFest (when will a homebrewer make a beer for the driver?). Bubblegum, soda water, a very mild hint of grain-like sweetness, little to no hop character - not even the metallic Mac’s Gold hop. Nothing wrong with it - except that it doesn’t taste like beer.

(Bottle 33 cl) Clear, golden with a small, white head leaving laces. Weak aroma of malt. Extremely thin and watery, almost no malt feel and an edge of cardboard. Absolutely no bitterness. This is damn close to water. 050208

Light golden clear body with normal size head. Sweet nose in some strange way with a little citrus. Very light feeling and short neutral aftertaste.

Bottled. Clear golden, rich head. Papery malt aroma.Sweet and very thin, the body just falls through. There is some grassy bitterness, but rasinyn sweet malt flavours dominates, like in a malta. Might be nearly as good as water if you need to stay sober, but enjoyable it is not.

Surprisingly good for a beer of this ABV. Not surprisingly this is still deserving of a light beer rating
