2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 TheGrandMaster (2313) - Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - MAY 7, 2009
Rated from memory. A favourite from my less erudite days. More malty than I was used to drinking in those days, which most likely captured my attention.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 Plimmer (251) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - FEB 12, 2008
Bottle 33cl. Golden slightly hazy body with small head. Fruit, hops and citrus in the nose. Oranges/citrus and the flavour and the aftertaste dominated by hops and oranges.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 bozoNZ (672) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - MAR 22, 2007
330ml bottle bb 31/05/07. Bright straw yellow, good clean white fluffy head. Sweet floral aroma, full mouthfeel. More sweetness than dryness but reas balanced nonetheless. A touch creamy, marmalade. Nice beer.

Clear and golden. Interesting, slightly grape like aroma. Full bodied with good carbonation. Malty, grainy and mildly vinouse flavor with a bitter finish.
2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 jimthechap (804) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - JAN 4, 2007
Too many bloody oranges! What is it about oranges for God’s sake! It’s not a lager I’d care to go back for over and over again, but if there is nothing better on offer...
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 ALLOVATE (1719) - Butler, WA, AUSTRALIA - NOV 23, 2006
Silver label that simply reads ’Reserve’. Into a stein. Very lightly carbonated, bright, orangey gold body with a big, messy white head that held and daubed the glass well. Good dose of ripe oranges amongst some subtle rock candi, toffee and bread crumbs on the nose. Ripe, tangy and bitter Curacao oranges in the mouth. A little fizzy and biting, and very light in body. Light herbal and bready backdrop but it’s honestly all citrus across the palate. Finish is long, tangy and sweet with more oranges, surprise, surprise! Really straight forward, no life in this one. Just another lager. (5.0% ABV, 33cL, 12/03/07, International Beer Store, W. Leederville)
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Nicko (191) - Ashfield, AUSTRALIA - AUG 26, 2006
I think the name has changed slightly, no mention of ’Nelson’ in the title, but i’m assuming this is it. Looks good in the glass; good head and bubbles on a golden body. Floral aromas, though a little sour? Bitter sweet taste with a medium body.

I have been enjoying the Copperhop Ale recently as it is a nice departure from some of the Aussie beers. At $40 a case it is reasonably good value in these parts as well. I found this beer in the impressive Purvis Cellars on a recent trip to Melbourne. After an interminable tram ride from the city it at least discharges you at the door.
So, to the beer. Pours well and looks like the PL it claims to be. There is a hint of hop quite unlike beers of this dreaded appelation but not enough to lead me to expect a really great beer. It has a pleasant citrusy flavour with some background breadiness. The finish is quick and as such it does not satisfy to a great extent. These blokes do some pretty good beers but this one doesn’t excite me.
2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 mullet (849) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - APR 5, 2006
Initially very very yeasty, quite lemony with a vague hoppiness and some kiwi fruit. Gets a bit better as it warms, with some floury, milky pils malt, lemony NZ hops and not much of a finish. Seems alright under the yeast, but it’s more "premium lager" than helles. I dunno... these guys have some pretty good beers, but this is ordinary.
