3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
(Bottle 33 cl) Clear, amber golden with a creamy, off-white head leaving some lacing. Fresh, citrusy nose. A little thin in the body with flavours of caramel and nuts, but never sweet. Dry finish with a light touch of hops. Very well made actually. 290108

Iíve had this one in New Zealand on my honeymoon. Visited the brewery too.
Red colored brew. Hoppy aroma, malty, bitter flavor.

2.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 9/20
UPDATED: DEC 29, 2007 Itís gone downhill.....used to be a full bodied malty and hoppy brew but has suffered a takeover by a macro. Mouthfeel and flavour has certainly taken a dive but it still smells good....ah well better than lion red i guess! Itís got really dry in the finish which is very disappointing.
Just wandered past the brewery and had a look through the window...lo and behold as i suspected an enormous vat of liquid sugar! Itís generally the way, Macro takes over Micro and the first thing they do to maximise profits is to cheapen the ingredients!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sampled on Flashyís tour of LA, New Zealand and Hong Kong of September/October 2007 - This was one of the best beers I tried in NZ. Very, very distinctive. Like a very good and hoppy and malty UK bitter, if a tad sweeter. I could knock these back one after tíother, and I did!

Beautiful copper deep red and floral nose. Sweet but well balanced. Best example of style that Iíve had. Excellent.

Poured a deep red with a nice dirty and frothy head. Nice hop aroma. Good length on the malt and finishes with an solid hop character. I liked it a lot.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Love the novelty of the pull top. Nice hops on the nose, citrusy tropical fruitiness to it, passionfruit like, APA-like indeed. Pours a clean amber body with offwhite head and lace. Body is a bit leaner than I hoped but palate has decent length with a decent amount of biscuity nutty malt and a complexity of zest citrus and tropical fruit hop character; iím reminded of pineapples, passionfruit, lychees, grapefruit, lemon, unexpectidly fruity. Finishes reasonably dry and bitter. I quite like this one, some extra body would make it very nice indeed.

SOme interesting if not storng pommy malt aromsa, with a good dash of biscuit and faint hops. Red and tawny tinges pour with slight offwhite head.
Enjoyable, malty flavours, with subtle hops presence.

Really cool label design and a very unique and unusual bottle. Liked it instantly.
Really nice heavy maltiness about it.
Really nice malty almost cheesecake flavours come through with a dry blackcurrant finish.

I am confused that this is described as a product of a brewpub when it is clearly a commercially available Macís beer. Great coppery colour and clean head with a fine whiff of hop. There is a good biscuity flavour and caramel notes which delights the palate. There are a number of flavours that come out but I must say there is something lacking that I found in the Copperhop stablemate that I have had both on tap and in the bottle. This is still good and is well priced that wonít preclude the odd purchase of a sixer.
