3.2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 hawthorne00 (1306) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - NOV 8, 2009
Bottle. Pours dark red with light beige head. Caramel and Saaz hop aroma. Light malts and citrus. Bitterness is there, but rather more floral than usual for this style. Refreshing.
2.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 eczematic (1284) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - JAN 13, 2004
UPDATED: FEB 8, 2007 rer8 out of the bottle: i was a bit worried that this is now made by macs cause i have not had good experiences with their beers, and once again despite all the hot air on the label they have managed to brew mediocre thin-bodied ale. good aroma of passionfruit, lots of flowery hops, some english yeast, and biscuit. clear auburn. palate however is sweet, cloying and watery at the same time, a feat usually only achieved by pasteurised english bottled bitter. tastes oxidised. finish is empty with only a thin grassy hop tang. original (brewpub) rating (3.6): has to be the first ever brewpub where the "red" is the best beer they make. actually no the gruit was better. but this came close. heaps of NZ hops in aroma - floral, grapefruit and passionfruit - very nutty, full, smooth malt with traces of toast and biscuits, then a big fruity-bitter finish. lots of flavour, original, and easy to swill = good marks from me.

Bottle. Too sweet for a bitter. Aroma is malty and not strong. Flavour is sweet with almost no bitterness. Looks nice, red in colour with lasting head. Body is light to medium, with a watery feel.

Hoppy nose, I reckon hops were added late as an after thought. as very plain beer. Is red in colour with small head.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 maneliquor (1008) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - DEC 10, 2011
Bottle from Mane Liquor. Light red-amber pour with a small white head. Toasted biscuit and nutty tones show themselves on the nose. Sweet caramel/toffee/honey (I’m getting a little of each) and floral hops in the taste. OK but not my thing
3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 Davros (919) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - FEB 5, 2011
Pours dark amber/red with a large but short-lasting head.
Nose shows generous amounts of toasty, nutty malt with some caramel in there too. In the way of hops there’s a faint fruity character. Loving the malt though.
Some of the nutty malt transfers through as a flavours but overall the malt profile seems overly metallic. Finishes with a weak bitterness and that metallic character.
Carbonation is much too high.

Beautiful copper deep red and floral nose. Sweet but well balanced. Best example of style that I’ve had. Excellent.
