3.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 TheGrandMaster (2308) - Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - JAN 25, 2005
From tap at brewery pub. Brown-red colour with a small head. Hoppy aroma with hints of blackcurrent. The taste didn’t quite live up to the aroma though. Quite malty, I got (burnt) caramal flavours. But was also very carbonated, but maybe that is more the pub’s fault (but it is at the brewery). Not bad, but there is better in NZ of its kind.

On tap 01.05.09. Amber ruby, off white head. Aroma is malty & hoppy. Flavor is the same with caramel. A decent and smooth bitter blend, on the light side.

330mL. Awesome bottle and pull off cap. Pour is clear, deeper orange to amber with an excellent, yellow to tan head with great rocky retention and great lace. Aroma is all rye malt, earthy rye. Taste is rye malt, rich malty, earthy, dirty, raw grains, fennel. Pretty solid.

Bottle. Pours with a large off white head over a burnt orange body. Aroma of maltly nuttiness balanced with reinous hops. Finishes with a touch of bitterness.

330ml bottle. Very attractive deep coppery red hue, nice off white creamy head which unfortunately shows poor retention, moderate lacing. A nice mix of malty aromas (caramel biscuit mostly, some nuttiness) with very appealing strong resinous hops some fruitiness and a bit woody. Mildly sweet, moderately bitter. I think this would improve if it had more substance in the palate. Had this beer ages ago and thought it rocked, today its reasonably good and at $2 NZ for an individual bottle its great value. Pretty good for a micro turned macro.
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 crispi (95) - AUSTRALIA - JAN 10, 2011
great red look to the beer. low carbonation upon opening. Pours very clearly, and tastes much like a UK bitter. Small amounts of maltiness. Mild to the taste. Smooth palate (low carbonation). Would be a good session beer.
