3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 HugoPotomus (8) - - JUN 26, 2008Mcs used to be the best in the country. Now they have optimised the beers (for profit) and closed the original brewery, though they still claim to be "Nelson Based". This beer is still pretty good compared to whats available in most bottle shops, compared to Montieths the Macs brand has lost less flavour and tastes less macro. Not very bitter but well balanced the Saaz and toasty malt work well together to create something that lets you know its beer.

Lots of floral fragrances give way quickly to marshmallow and honey, then finally some earthy notes including dirt, metal and sump oil. In the mouth it’s more hoppy with good length and a reasonable malt structure. It could probably do with a little more bite, but it’s an enjoyable drop.

Keg at shed 22 Brewbar, Wellington 7/1/13
Clear amber-brown with slight spicy apple aroma. Medium bodied, sweet caramel, some cardboard and astringent flavours and rasping bitter finish but little in the way of hop flavour. Another red ale I don’t like...
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Rangi (381) - NEW ZEALAND - DEC 30, 2012
Very sessionable beverage. Tasty enough without being outstanding. Would be happy to drink when the rugby is on.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 ciaranc (365) - Dublin, IRELAND - NOV 14, 2012
330ml bottle. Looks the part, clear copper pour with a nice beige/off-white head. Lovely mellow caramel malty nose with a decent hop background. Flavour follows aroma, biscuit, smooth caramel malt with a spray of nicely judged soft hops. Mouthfeel is soft, a touch creamy even, carbonation is minimal. Finish is long and luscious. Excellent beer. Extraordinarily good for its price point.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 dgi (14) - DENMARK - OCT 7, 2012
330 ml bottle. Pours dark amber with a thin head and a very lively carbonation. Nice floral and citrus hop smell. Roasted malty notes is what makes most of the flavour, with a lingering bitter finish. The body is very thin. Nice easy drinking beer.

Bottle- Pours a nice amber color with a small head that fades to nice lacing. Aroma of roasted malt sweetness with spice and some grain in the back ground. Taste of malt sweetness and a bit of spice. Mild bitterness and a clean finish. fairly medium body, smooth and a bit creamy. Has a distinct character. Nice drinker that goes down easy. Not bad for the style.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 pmuzz (262) - AUSTRALIA - JUL 6, 2012
A really good, cheap and quaffable beer. Its not pretentious but easy drinking with a good balance. Don’t let the price mislead you into thinking this is a bad beer!
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 ACD (335) - Dublin, IRELAND - JUN 16, 2012
33cl bottle. Pours hazy copper with thin light tan head - decent amount of lacing. Aroma is of dark fruits, floral notes, sweet malt, slight nuttiness. Taste is fruity - dark fruits - floral notes, and a citric hop zing which gives a pleasant degree of bitterness. Plenty of rich malt action in the taste too - caramel especially - very well balanced. This is a very tasty and very sessionable beer, reminds me of some of the new twists on the traditional Irish Red Ale that a handful of Irish microbreweries are coming out with at the moment - lovely.
