I tried this beer on draught in the Astrolabe bar in Mt Maunganui, NZ, and also in bottles. In both cases it was slightly cloudy. Pale ale colour of ight amber and with a balance of hop and malt with maybe caramel hints and a note of tangerine. Not unpleasant but I decided not to buy it again.

On Tap at Mac’s Northern Steamship Co. Served a light golden color with a small head that fades quickly to spots of lacing. Mild aroma of sweet malt, bit of citrus and fresh grain. Taste of mild citrus with some malt sweetness and grain. Light bitterness and a clean finish. Light body, crisp , quite smooth and refreshing. Drinkable, but a bit short on flavor.

The taste is all at the front with almost nothing of interest going on in the middle and finish. Not a bad taste, just kind of timid and unfulfilling.

Very similar to Tui. More of a lager with a bit more malt. Not much hop flavor considering it uses 4 hop varieties.

330ml bottle. Pours hazy golden colour with little carbonation and a nice creamy thin white head. Aroma is doughy cheesy yeast and some sweet citrus notes. Taste is watery with some yeast and hops, a bit metallic, slightly bitter.

Your first impression of Mac’s Shady Pale is its golden straw colour, more reminiscent of a krystallweizen than a pale ale, and soapy white foamy head from the pour. The detergent continues in the nose then a light malty sweetness on the front of palate gives way to a subdued bitterness at the back, the result of marketdroids at play. Before long you’re staring at an empty glass, hopefully as you tip the remainder down the drain, contemplating the significance of man and beer amongst the vastness of the universe of quality craft beer you could be drinking. You cry bitter tears and realise they taste better than this total waste of money and time.

UPDATED: MAY 10, 2013 Little bit of citrus on the nose, but overly over powering. Poured flat with little carbonation. Not really much to say on this beer other than it is drinkable, though not special.
