COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Roast Barly and chocolate malts bring hints of chocolate and liquorice with an underlying coffee aroma. Combined with the effective use of greenbullet hops creates what can be best described as liquid fruitcake. A smooth voluptuous beer.

Bottle: Dark brown, deep ruby hightlights, large frothy beige head, spotty lacing.   Soft soy and smoked aroma.   Pale Rauchbier and/or Schwarzbier on the tongue.   Very slight lactose like sweetness at the finish.   This porter feels average, certainly not the "robust porter" that it claims.   Seems to make a better Schwarzbier or Smoked than a Porter.   Thanks Matt.

Dark black colour, thin head, very fizzy, burnt malt flavour predominates, long finish with a lingering bitterness.

Very dark brown with a ruby tint and a thin brown head. Chocolatey aroma. Flavour is quite chocolatey, malted milk, and a bit of toast. Creamy cocoa flavour with no roastiness. Quite good, if decidedly simple.

Bottle. Dark maple with a hint of blood and little head...nose of roasty grain, just a touch of dark chocolate, and perhaps some soap...body lightly sweet, clean, brown sugar/caramel and cola...dry and too-carbonated finish.

Poured from the tap from the pub at the brewery. A very dark black colour, but had no head at all. Aroma was of coffee, not very hoppy. Taste matched the aroma, again of roasted coffee. However, also taste slightly watery and again for this pub seemed too carbonated.

UPDATED: MAR 10, 2005 Tasted 23/01/2005. Pint from the bar at the brewery with the Grandmaster. Rerated 09/03/2005. Pours black with ruby hints and soft, oily, dark tan head. Good coffee and chocolate malt on the nose - yummy. Sweet chocolatey malt first impression with a well balanced bitterness taking over. I’m sure this beer is beter than the last time I tried - or maybe I’m in a better mood? A little oily in the palate after a slightly overcarbonated skinny mouthfeel. Again, too cold from the tap.

quite a big beer which explains why it won gold at whatever beer awards it won. pretty full texture. aroma of port and tobacco merged into oak and vanilla flavours with burnt toast and chocolate and coffee. a lttle lactic sourness in the finish was a downer. on another day this could be great

a very stouty porter, big and chunky and bitter. loads of heavy, oily, syruppy malt, heaps of roasted bitterness along with some harsh high-alpha hop bitterness, and a long coffee finish with a bit of rancid butter that spoilt it a bit. certainly full of flavour, just a bit too fatty in the mouthfeel.
