kempicus (192), Wellington, New Zealand Mar 7, 2008 Tasted at the brewery bar Wellington It took leaving some dregs in the glass to warm up and go completely flat to get any aroma off this......slight citrus aroma but nothing exciting. Needless to say this was sensodyne toothpaste cold and completely over carbonated….not a good start! Flavour is okay, little bit of fruit and zesty citrus but the cold completely kills it. Has a slight bitter finish but an unpleasant chemical aftertaste at the back of the throat. About all i can say is that "i finished it" which is more than i can say for their golden bay bitter.
bozoNZ (370), Christchurch, New Zealand Mar 18, 2008 Tap at Shed 22. Nice golden, decent head faded well after pouring. Nice up front aromas - fresh grassy hops a little passionfruit perhaps too. Initial flavours are similar but falls away like a bungey. Cold and well carbonated but you are left with a spritzy zing of soda water. The mid strength has taken all the character. I imagine the dragon boaters knocking this back after training... yalnikim (665), Wellington, New Zealand Mar 13, 2008 Tasted 13/03/2008. Tap at the Shed 22 brewery. Bozo had this one waiting for me when I arrived but it is still super cold - could do with 10sec on high. Brilliant pale gold with a thin lingering off-white head and a light lace. The nose, a light tickle of riwaka and a little caramel malt, is on its way to becoming Macs signature. First sip is similar to the aroma - a little zesty hop and some lightly caramel malt. Very clean. Carbonated water comes to dominate the flavour. Low-med fruity hop flavour, with low bitterness. Quaffable, as an ordinary should be, but unspectaular and unable to carry off the low alcohol at this sort of temperature and carbonation level.
