Once again MacTarnahan's redefines "smooth". Striking a perfect balance between the classic Northwest and Celtic styles, Blackwatch is a remarkably distintive new style of porter. With expert use of malted barley, unmalted grains and oatmeal, Blackwatch Cream Porter delivers unforgettable rich taste and smooth texture.

Had on tap. Initial head small. Nice dark color. Rich smooth taste. Looks more intimidating than it is. Quaffable for sure...

"i can see why many people mistake this cream porter for a stout. heavy and thick bodied, smoother than most porters. not a lot of complexity here, but what it does it does well. recommended."

This is poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a one finger off white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute leaving some light speckled lacing clinging here and there around the glass. The smell had a rich roasty coffee to sweet chocolate malt allowing a creamy sort of caramel to vanilla underneath. The taste was mainly sweet and still had a decent roasty balance to it all. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation ran so smooth and velvety in texture. Overall, this one really lived up to its description - spot on and I would have this again.

Growler pour, this was hard to figure out because the store listed it as Portland black water cream porter. After reading the reviews, Im pretty sure Ive got the right one. Red/black body with a skiff of fine mocha colored head. It smells of raisins and anise and coffee. First taste was kinda soapy?! Sour and slightly spicy, then bitter. Almost a black IPA. Finish is bitter, faintly of grapefruit. Carbonation is fine, but slightly sharp, and body is a bit thin. Overall just average.

22 oz bomber, room temperature. Black pour with a light brown head. Very nice hints of chocolate and coffee. Good mouth feel with just the right carbonation. Very smooth drinker, this one is worth having a few pints.

This is a middling porter. The coffee and chocolate youd expect, though more watery. A tad bit of licorice.

Serving type: bottle Aroma- Roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. A-Dark Dark brown almost black with a quickly disappearing tan head, very little lacing. T/P- Tasted is of chocolate, coffee and roasted malt. Seems to be a little bit over carbonated. D- A good porter, this is easy to drink before a meal, with a meal, or after a meal or all three. Found myself wanting another one after I finished the first. It is very good for a light tasting porter.
