3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle courtesy of kenb! Thanks! Pours pretty much black, with a thin bubbly beige head which quickly disappears. Strong smells of coffee, with a hint of chocholate. Good and malty, with a descent hop backbone. A little on the thin side i think, but then again i just had an impy stout so maybe its just me. Tastes similar to the smell, primarily coffee once again. Not bad.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Serving type: bottle
Aroma- Roasted malt, coffee and chocolate.
A-Dark Dark brown almost black with a quickly disappearing tan head, very little lacing.
T/P- Tasted is of chocolate, coffee and roasted malt. Seems to be a little bit over carbonated.
D- A good porter, this is easy to drink before a meal, with a meal, or after a meal or all three. Found myself wanting another one after I finished the first. It is very good for a light tasting porter.

3 years later I am trying it again. MacTarnahanís is now known as Portland Brewing Company. Tastes amazing, maybe even better. So creamy and smooth.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
We liked this one a lot . . .
Poured from 12 oz. bottle an almost black color with a medium brown head. The head was short lived, but lacing was OK. Aroma is strong featuring chocolate predominately and overall dark malts. Flavor is well-balanced between bitter elements of coffee and roasted malts, and the chocolate and somewhat molasses-like tones. Hops provide adequate bitterness, but do not overpower. The oatmeal is not actually noticeable in the flavor, but clearly helps to smooth this brew overall. This is not really a great example of a "Porter" (nor would we guess it is meant to be), but taken on its own terms it is a very enjoyable brew. (BTW, here in St. Louis, the MacTarnahan products are no longer available as the only distributor locally has dropped them. Hopefully that will change . . . )

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Poured a nearly opaque black, no head to speak of. The nose is smokey with rich strong chocolate on the back end. The taste starts the same with a little of that same smokiness with chocolate and a hint of coffee. The end is malty and a little creamy. Itís a little thin for a porter,
slightly fizzy as well. Itís an okay porter. Wonít go out of my way for it though.
