Bottle from John’s Marketplace. Pours very dark brown with a frothy tan head. Smells of rich darkly roasted malt with possible xmas spice. Medium body with mild carbonation. Dark, lightly burnt malt flavor. Spice seems absent. Light bitter. Seems to be going coffee towards the finish. Not a lot of hop, but it’s pretty good.

Bomber poured a clear dark reddish brown with a lasting tan head. Aromas of roasted malt, cocoa, light licorice and a hint of fruittiness. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of roated malt a nd cocoa with a smooth dry lingering roasty finish. A fairly simplistic Porter.

Bottle:   Deep brown, almost black, moderate fizzy light beige head, dies quickly, sparce lacing.   Balanced nose of toasted malts and hop bitterness.   A little astingent on the tongue, otherwise roasted malts with a pale hop background.   This is a porter that in no way seems special given that its a Winter/Holiday release.   In fact, this Porter is really "ho-hum".   Not heavy, nor light, this is really middle of the road kind of stuff.   Smidgen of roasted malt character and even softer hops linger.   I still question why this is a Holiday release when it has no special or Holiday like qualities.   Porters can be found from thousands of breweries as standard fare throughout the year.   Not sure why MacTarnahans went out on a limb to brew this "Holiday Porter".   I was really hoping for something special.   Boring...

Roasty nose, some coffee, and thats about it. Pours dark brown, thin tan head. Roast and coffee flavors. Very one dimensional and straightforward. Not very interesting, but nothing wrong with it either, but at 2.99 a bomber you cant complain and that bumps up the overall score. You can get way worse shit for 2.99.
