3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 BBB63 (5039) - La Porte, USA - JUN 10, 2007
On tap in FTW: Nearly opaque with a small lasting creamy head (nitro?) and very good lace. The nose detects chocolate, smoke, rye, walnut, bread, and earthy yeast esters. The taste has a nice bittersweet mocha front end balanced by a light lactic twang and finished with a solid smoky and nutty character. I even found a hint of blueberry on occasion. The mouth feel is smooth and medium-bodied, lush with a dry finish. A darn solid stout and I liked the smoky tone found within. A keeper and worth a try if in the area.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a dark brown with a thin tan head. Creamy chocolate and roasted malt aromas. Roasted malt flavors dominate with coffee, chocolate, and burnt sugar notes. A bit thin on the palate, but overall a good beer.

Growler on the RBSG bus. Deep black pour.. The nose is quite sweet and milky. A little bit earthy and quite cocoaish. Lingering roast behind the milk chocolate. Soft, slightly fruity with a little kiss of tartness on the back. It’s a pretty decent simple stout.

Thin cola-like beer with lots of ice tea, caramel and some fruitiness. Meh.

Growler on the bus to the Michigan Brewers Festival during RBSG. Pours a chocolate brown with a thin beige head. Chocolate and coffee, vanilla on the nose. Medium bodied, but thinner than I’d like. Tannic malt and chocolate sweetness on the finish.

On the bus at RBSG. Pours a deep brown (almost black) with an espresso swirl head. The aroma is awesome with plenty of toasty, chocolate, and coffee notes and a fair amount of sweetness. The flavor nails lactose sweetness and pairs it with a good roasty coffee and vanilla character. The beer is very straightforward but very good.

Growler on the RBSG bus. Chocolaty, sweet, but with a sour edge, very creamy and smooth. Decent sweet stout but a bit too thin and rather bland.

Thanks to someone on the RBSG bus! (Guyinchicago perhaps?) Really nice cream stout. Enough roastiness. Aroma has hints of sweaty ass crack though. A little watery, a little more carbonation could be nice, though it was from a growler so I can’t be to hard on it.

Growler pour on the RBSG bus to Ypsilanti. Thanks to whoever brought this. Pours a black-brown color with a small khaki head. The aroma is light with roasted rye grain and something vegetal. Flavor is earthy with mild hops and some good chocolate notes. Palate was light with lively carbonation. Finishes medium with lingering cocoa. Overall: Very good sweet stout.

Draft at Fort Wayne brewpub.
Poured clear dark brown color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate roasted coffee and milk chocolate malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium milk chocolate sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration.
My expectations where met with a solid beer.
