4.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 thedm (4126) - Fort Wayne, USA - MAR 6, 2004

This draft brew from the brewery poured a foamy medium sized head of fine to medium sized mostly lasting bubbles that left behind an excellent lacing. The body was an opaque black with no visible carbonation. The aroma was all mild dark malt. The mouth feel was smooth from start to finish wiht a mild coffeee bite. The flavor was all dark malt and molasses, but very tasty. One of their best beers.

The aged 2003 version was fantastic. Too bad its all gone now.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 bdigital (637) - Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA - JAN 3, 2009
Vinage ’04 bottle...pour is pitch black with no head. Nose is mainly chocolate, dark fruits, cherries and brown sugar. Medium body with somewhat of a silkiness to it. Roasted malts, subtle dark cherry notes and some coffee noted in the flavor...something seems to be lacking. Surprisingly not at all oxidized though. Decent brew but not up there with the elite by any means.

sample from a 2003 bottle - Pours thick and black with a thin tan head. There’s an okay dark roast malt aroma. Coffee definitely comes through in the intense roasted malt flavor. It’s somewhat lacking in complexity, but seems to have aged nicely. Hopefully I can get a bottle or two of this one.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 hotstuff (3249) - Indiana, USA - MAR 6, 2004
Draft. The head was medium sized and tan with fine-large sized bubbles that mostly diminished. The body was black and opaque and no carbonation was observed. The nose was malty and some hints of chocolate. The flavor was malt and coffee. The mouthfeel was smooth and the lacing was good.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 flemdawg (503) - Naples, Florida, USA - FEB 7, 2004
Motor oil body, with a thin dark brown head. Not much aroma, but there was a bit of a smoky smell to it, along with hints of dark malts and chocolate. Interesting flavor, roasted stuff that I couldn't distinguish and also sweet and bitter in finish. Creamy mouth feel, pretty long lasting taste. Alcohol became evident as it warmed. Pretty darn good.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 temporrari (361) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - FEB 5, 2004
UPDATED: APR 28, 2005 On tap: A lacking imperial. Beautiful looking brew. Black as night w/ a dark brown head. A head that lasts a few minutes. Aroma was lacking, some roast. Then again the beer was pretty cold. Taste is full, with a bit of roasted chocolate in the aftertaste. Not their best beer, but decent enough I guess.
