Very dark brown. Couldn’t get a head going. Chocolatey, fudgey aroma with a hint of coffee. Light, soft body. Sweet, but with a light coffee accent. Subtle milk chocolate and a hint of nuts. Slight imperfections, but pretty tasty.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Jethro6191 (241) - Indiana, USA - JAN 1, 2010
Bottle. Pours dark brown with a hint of red. The thin tan head quickly disappeared. Low marks for appearance due to floating chunks of yeast in the beer. Coffee, roasted malt, and chocolate aromas. The flavors included roasted malt, chocolate, and coffee with an acidic aftertaste. Low carbonation and watery mouthfeel.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 jcr (1681) - Jasper, Indiana, USA - APR 9, 2009
Bottle. Dark brown to black body with a short, but lasting tan head. Pleasant aroma of sweet milk chocolate and roasted malts with a hint of coffee. The flavor is lightly to moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately bitter and dry. Lasting bitterness and an astringency in the aftertaste. The taste of unsweetened, bitter chocolate is in the forefront and behind that is sugary sweetness. Medium body with a watery texture that’s fairly smooth. The flavors and tastes in this beer seem at odds — at once too sweet with too much lingering, biting bitterness.

Sample at the Hopsnobbery Collective Porter tasting at Dogbricks on 12/4/08. Color is a mostly clear medium brown with some off-white head. Very malty aroma with a tad bit of hop and roast. Roasty and creamy flavor, but could use a little more on the finish.
