Tap at brewery. Woody smoke and sweet buttery caramel malt. Dark brown with a moderate tan head, thick creamy lacing. Woody smoke, roasty caramel malt flavor. Medium to full body, moderate carbonation. Great balance with the smoke. Enough to contribute flavor without being acrid, and allowed the malt to shine through.

Draft at MABC. Very small tan head that quickly dissipated, spotty amounts of lacing, no carbonation observed, opaque, and a black hue. Nose was malty, roasty and smokey. The flavor was moderately smokey, malty, roasty, and lightly bitter. Smooth mouthfeel and medium in body. Quaffable with a definite smokey presence in the nose and flavor. Just okay for the style, but it did not leave me wanting for more. Worth a try though.

Draft: Poured at the brewery was this dark black brew with a nice looking creamy tan head. I picked up on very little smoke in both the aroma and the taste of this brew. There were the usual roasted malt and chocolate aromas along with a subtle hoppiness, but just a tad bit of liquid smoke flavor/aroma. Decent, not great.

draft at the brewery - Pours black with a one finger head. The aroma is smoke and dark roast malt. The flavor has assertive smokiness along with coffee accented roast malt and moderate bitterness. The body is maybe a touch too light for the style, but I’ll call it medium bodied. My tastes are bit different than thedm’s as I found the smoke level in the aroma and flavor to be moderate and enjoyable. I really enjoyed this one.

New in January 2008, this draft brew from the brewery poured a very small sized head of foamy tan colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a opaque no visible carbonation black colored body and an excellent lacing. The strong aroma was smoky. The mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start mediumly tingly at the finish with a malty soft hop smoky aftertaste. The strong flavor contained notes of overpoweringly strong smoke that masks everything else. A decent one but not one that I would consider buying again.
