Bottle… Coal black ale with a small, creamy, beige head. The aroma offers a lot – examples include licorice root, graham, cocoa nibs and sassafras. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Roasty and sweet – chocolate, espresso, brown sugar and graham. Finishes mocha-sweet and spicy. Thanks to mgumby10 for popping the top on this one!

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured clear black color with an average frothy brown head that was mostly lasting with fair lacing. Moderate toasted malt and sweet chocolate aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy sweet chocolate flavor with medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate duration. Solid beer.

22oz bottle acquired in trade. Poured a black color with an averaged sized tan head. Aromas of smoke, roast, tobacco, and cherries. Tastes of dark fruits, roast chocolate, and lighter coffee bitter finish. Oily and thick body with lively carbonation. Somewhat of a lighter tart finish.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 BMan1113VR (6531) - Los Angeles, California, USA - DEC 17, 2009
Bottle from my want’s list thanks to St. Fun. Fun indeed! Thick, syrupy pour with a huge, creamy dark brown head. Completely, inky black body. Aroma of chocolate, earth, bananas, calvados/apple brandy, toffee. Taste is a bit odd, cocoa powder, cola, smoke, apple brandy (up front), burnt brown sugar. A lot going on, but not all of it is nice nor harmonious. Syrupy mouthfeel, alcohol is well hidden though. Odd beer.

Enjoyed on tap at the brewpub. Dark colour, some lace, fresh, not much aroma. The taste is stouty and chocolate mostly. A bit tart, average mouthfeel. However representative of the style and a base hit winner.
