goldtwins (3668), Nesconset, New York, USA Apr 10, 2008 Thanks to Kujo9 for what appears to be a fairly rare treat. The beer poured a a hazy deep reddish-brown color with a beige head. The aroma is sweet and fruity with notes of dark fruits, caramel and chocolate. Fruity flavor with notes of prunes and some more chocolate. Medium-full bodied and smooth. Light aged character. Fairly warming in the chest and throat but only a tiny pepper alcohol taste.
kujo9 (1042), North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA Nov 14, 2007 12 oz bottle: Deep brown w/ a thin, short lived light beige head. Toasted malt, brown sugar, sherry, dark fruit (figs) and lots of caramel! Sweet and malty aroma w/ some hints of anise as it warms. Malty balance; Caramel, toasted malt, brown sugar, fig fruit flavors all there! Slight yeasty flavor, but pleasant. Semi sweet finish, but dries out to keep it from being cloying. Some sherry & toffee flavors, and has a dark fruit aftertaste. Well attenuated for a 12.5 ABV beer! Fuller, smooth body, drying finish as it leaves the mouth, and well hidden ABV! Apparently this beer has already aged somewhat, and it is a pretty damn good one! If you like English style BW’s, this one is for you! dankman38 (217), Somewhere in, Ohio, USA Aug 9, 2007 Updated: Mar 24, 2008I had this on tap at The Brew Keeper, it was suggested by a gentleman drinking a stout at the bar when I entered. Do you like carmel, if so this beer is for you, from aroma to finish this just said carmel. Though it is a barleywine it really drank more like a sweet, heavy quadrupel (yum) and had a very nice finish like some of the best out there. If you should happen to be anywhere in the area and you like Belgian quads and/or barleywine I strongly recommend this beer (I had two, I almost never have two of the same beers back to back).
Revised 11/08/07- Much boozier than the last time but from the same batch, but bottled. Same as previously stated but there is a fair amount of alcohol created in the aging process, I bought a few just to store away for the future, good beer.
