2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
This beer pours dark brown with a thin tan head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, butter toffee and coffee. Body that is dry and thin for a Porter. The flavor has a buttery character that makes me think the bottle has turned. Some coffee and malt flavor as well. The finish is short and roasty. A miss overall.

2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle from moejuck...thanks Joe! - Deep, dark cola color with a small tan head. Sweet and chocolatey nose, with a touch of molasses, whiskey, and marshmallow...weird, but pretty nice. Sweet, with just a touch of roastiness, but an odd finish that has a bit of honey and caramel. Leaves an odd, sweet aftertaste that borders on unpleasant. Interesting, but it doesnít work.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz. bottle via trade with moejuck - Pours a clear dark brown color with a small light tan head. Very light lacing. Has a very nice doughy malt aroma. Flavor is much of the same. Kinda odd though. Light to medium body. A nice beer, but not your typical Porter. Thanks Joe.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
22oz bottle. thanks to dawn for the bonus..... pours a dark cola brown with more transparent brown edges topped off with a thin light beige head.... aroma of paper and toosie rolls with soured dark fruit ... flavors begin on a sweet yet sour chocolate fudge cola note then more sourness evolves. tingly carbonation and thin body.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 ounce bottle. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours dark brown with about an inch and half tan head. Head retention and lacing are both decent. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee and a weird fruity aroma that I have no idea what it is. Taste is similar to the aroma (including the weird fruity taste), but also has a bit of a nutty taste too. However, the overall flavor of this beer is just weird. I canít explain it, but thereís something a bit off about it. Mouthfeel/body is light/medium, itís a bit coating and has low carbonation. Drinkability is OK, itís not hard to drink at all but the weird flavor and aroma sure doesnít help. Good thing I only bought a single bottle of this. Iíll have to revisit this in the future, because I donít think I had a good bottle.

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle. Pours near-black with a small light brown head which dissipates quickly. Aroma of roast malts and rich, sweet chocolate. The chocolate is very potent. Flavor is a little odd at first - sort of like a very weak chocolate milk with a hint of coffee thrown in. It evens out over the course of the glass, but itís funky in an uninteresting way (except for the part where you try to describe the flavor...). Has potential, but needs better balance.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Great, rich, straightforward chocolatey aroma. The flavor, though, is rather thin, like diluted Hersheyís syrup. Unfortunate.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
This poured a darker brown color with almost no head at all. Aroma was chocolate and roasted malts. Flavor was light chocolate, roasted malts, and not much else at all. This might have been the thinnest porter ive ever had and very low carbonated as well.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
7/30/2008: Mad Brewer Porter appears to be dark amber to brown in color. There is a mild amount of visible carbonation and a swirling, barely there beige-colored veil. The aroma is a blend of coffee and thin roasted malt. There is a hint of tangy dark fruit and chocolate. Sweet caramelized malts, a nice balalcne of roasted malts, dark fruits, chocolate, and coffee meld together to form the flavor. This medium-bodied beer is surprisingly heavier and has a better mouthfeel than expected. Overall this is a fairly solid porter.
12 fluid ounce bottle (5.2% ALc. by Vol.) purchased at the The Brew Keeper brewpub in North Ridgeville, Ohio. Rating #11 for this beer.
